Walking in heels

Is there a trick to this to prevent me looking like a very bad drag queen/breaking my ankles/wanting to chop off my burning feet after half an hour?

I can only manage kitten height heels, nothing more and indeed gave any pairs that I did have, to my friend.

I would love to wear heels for an up coming do but either one or all of the above happen. Am I missing something (other than a high heel gene).

Practise! I do all my housework in heels - it feels more glamorous and makes me do it quicker before my feet start to hurt!

Usually it's all to do with the shoe... so long as you are wearing something really sturdy (no stilletto heels) and well made, not too heavy and not too light and of course in the correct size for you then you shouldn't have any issues.

I'd recommend giving chunky cork wedge soles a go, get used to the gravitational pull and then maybe borrow friends shoes until you find a style/type of shoe that you like.

The current seasonal style is for quite a blocky heel anyway which is a goodsend as it eliminates 'bambi leg syndrome'

Thanks all, I am going to study the video link and look out for some sturdier heels. Not entirely sure I can manage the housework in them yet!

I was at a party last night and was astounded at the women dancing in skyscrapers .

When you are 5ft like me, you make sure you can walk in heels Grin

TattyDevine · 29/05/2011 21:06

Are you fat a sturdy lass? The more weight bearing down on yer trotters the worse they feel. When I'm at my proper fighting weight I can go on for hours without noticing my feet.

Otherwise, you just need to man up a bit! Grin

Don't be bamboozled by the dancing, though. Dancing in high heels is easier than walking in high heels, because you do it on the balls of your feet.

BulletWithAName · 29/05/2011 21:30

You need platform heels!

SpotsMumSally · 30/05/2011 13:09

I am not overly big so I think I may need to man up Grin. I grew up in and still wear DM boots, the lure of cushioned soles is too much for me and may have spoilt my feet!

It's the balls of my feet that feel like they are burning, I will look for platform heels too, they are the ones with a built up sole aren't they?

Yep, platforms have a built up sole so it reduces the pressure on the ball of your foot. Soooo much more comfortable!

Thanks!

platforms, wedges and chunky heels make walking a lot easier and they still look great and make your legs look longer :)

meltedchocolate · 01/06/2011 00:15

This is gonna sound silly I warn you now. I used to be very bloke-ish and didn't 'do' heels. To learn to walk in heels I really had to get into my feminine side and feel attractive, only then did it become natural and now only rarely leave the house in heels under three inches.
