Ted Baker

(I'm a top-heavy blonde size 12/14)

Its way over my usual budget.
For a relatively grand christening

Gorgeous, are you tall , just would be concerned it couldmaybe be a wee bit short if you are

plipplops · 27/05/2011 13:55

I think it's lovely.

cyb · 27/05/2011 14:01

bit fussy and too short

I think you woudl get fed up with it and if you're paying £££ get something you will def wear again, more classic

noddyholder · 27/05/2011 14:02

Too fussy for big boobs

cyb · 27/05/2011 14:03

So speaks the voice of experience Wink

SarkyLady · 27/05/2011 14:07

Thanks all :)

What about the cheaper option...

Mango

OP posts:
noddyholder · 27/05/2011 14:15

Love the mango one

SarkyLady · 27/05/2011 14:27

thanks.

and if I get the mango one then I can afford shoes :)

OP posts:
dolceebanana · 27/05/2011 14:33

Think The TB is a bit fussy too. The Mango dress still dressy but modern. I would go for something more like the Mango.

AngryFeet · 27/05/2011 14:38

I think they are both nice but just that bit too short - unless you have amazing legs in which case Envy

SarkyLady · 27/05/2011 14:42

I'm also worried about the length of the mango one.
My legs are good but not amazing.

Why are so many dresses this annoyingly short atm?
I already have about 3 dresses that I only wear with leggings/skinnies.

I think I'll give it a go. Worth it at that price I reckon.

OP posts:
pirateparty · 27/05/2011 14:45

Honestly, I think the TB one is too short for a christening and agree its a bit fussy if you're top heavy.

I like the Mango one more and it's very cheap!

theidsalright · 27/05/2011 14:45

the mango one is much nicer IMHO but don't know how the stripes, deep v and big boobs would work together (i'm falt chested so have the opposite problem)...also how short on you is it? I find the shortness of dresses in general Shock and heels just accentuate it. If you are 23 or something that isn't a problem of course Grin

Knofje · 27/05/2011 14:48

Love the Mango one, the vertical stripes will size your boobs up though. The old 'rule' is SO wrong, horizontal stripes slim, vertical increase.

SarkyLady · 27/05/2011 14:52

Am loving the suggestions that I might have fablous legs, or be tall, or be 23 Grin

(am 37 and 5.5 with ok legs)

Think I will order the Mango one. Might not work for the Christening but at that price it seems rude not to give it a try.

While I'm ordering from HoF, Whatcha think about this?
Mint Velvet Top

OP posts:
Knofje · 27/05/2011 15:11

The top is excellent, I want one too!

Is this the same dress as in your OP? It looks a lot less busy / overwhelming here. I like it.

The shape of this is great, very flattering. Not a colour many people could wear, I fear.

SarkyLady · 27/05/2011 15:17

yes that is the same TB dress. Strangely that view of it has put me off. It doesn't look like it would fit over my boobs...

love the reiss dress. but I'd look pregnant in that. I need a waist.

OP posts:
Knofje · 27/05/2011 16:52

No, it doesn't look very roomy in the nork department at all. The danger with that sort of big but relatively sparse print is that each dress varies massively depending which part of the pattern falls where, one may be may be way too busy, the next too sparse, a third just right. I'd never order anything with that sort of print, you really have to choose in person.

I suspect the Mango one will be fabulous (with a decent belt).

WhatsWrongWithYou · 27/05/2011 17:00

I saw a lovely spotted Mango one recently, which I thought would cover my boobs nicely. Will look for it.
Here. I know it's high-necked, but sometimes a wide scooped neck like that works with big bosoms, especially when there's no defined waistband.

Knofje · 27/05/2011 17:09

The Reis one does have a waist BTW, the draping is excellent (assuming you have hips). It'd emphasize the waist while disguising the tummy, that model is way to straight up and down to do it justice.

Would the norkage fit in here?

SarkyLady · 27/05/2011 17:53

Thanks for the info on the Reiss dress. I completely love it. So when I win the lottery...

The checked one is lovely. Reminds me of one I owned about 15 years ago :(
Fancy some colour though.

Anyway have ordered the mango dress and the MV top. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks so much for talking me out of buying the tb one. Was vv close to clicking buy :)

OP posts:
Knofje · 27/05/2011 18:37

You could wear a coloured belt / have a coloured sash added to the checked one. Match with shoes and bag, it'd be stunning.

A seamstress could add any style / colour of sash you fancied pretty inexpensively, TBH I'd just do it myself. this red belt would probably work, but it's pricy. Sash would be nicer.

I still love them mango one, just wonder if it's formal enough.

Knofje · 28/05/2011 18:30

Saw this when I was looking for something else. Fuchsia pink, cross over bust, waisted & draped, only 26 quid. Couldn't not link Wink

This from the same site is similarish to the reiss one, but stripy. Way too dull for what you're after, I think.

Knofje · 28/05/2011 18:33

Solid purple. I wouldn't bother, but they're too bargainous not to share. I know the tyranny of substantial frontage and dresses only too well...

SarkyLady · 30/05/2011 12:06

Thanks :)
