aghh! Can I be glamorous despite my ugly bunions?

I think I may be alone, at having nasty unsightly bunions in my early 40s. (My mum has them so I suppose it was inevitable). I love the summer, but really dread having to try and get my feet into sandals and am so jealous of the dainty ones everyone else can wear.

I have recently bought some special bunion sandals from a website www.meanfeet.co.uk and they are really comfortable and look pretty good.

But if anyone has any other suggestions I'd really appreciate it. I'd also love to know if I am not alone.

I still have that situation now, but for different reasons and with slightly less restrictions. I just considered buying a pair of shoes in 3 different colours just because they fit my criteria. But they probably wouldn't have worked with the bunion, so still a step in the right direction (excuse the pun).

My 14 year old DD has really bad bunions which she was born with. Doesn't help that she has to wear the latest trends in shoes (sadly, ballet pumps for her which make matters worse). She gets really bad blisters on her bunions and I dread to think how it will affect her as she gets older.
We did see a podiatrist for some years but really, not that much difference and being a teenager, she wouldn't be seen dead with an orthotic in her shoe!!

Haven't read whole thread but I have a bunion and am having surgery soon.

In the meantime, I wear Scholl Bimini sandals, I love them. More delicate that Birkenstocks but similar idea. OK they expose the bunion but they are comfortable and come in nice colours. I wear long wide-leg linen trousers (a no-no on MN of course!) to semi-hide my feet as well.

Wow! Aren't there alot of us about!
Its so good to get some new ideas about where to shop for my bunion-afflicted tootsies. Had completely forgotten about Scholl, they would be perfect! Thanks naturelover.
I did go to Clarks last week but unless I look at the granny section their main section shoes are getting too narrow for me.
And, yes, to whoever it was that wondered if Victoria Beckham has them!

Helltotheno · 26/05/2011 22:45

It was me who asked about VB.. I knew she had them but didn't she get em removed? With her dosh, I'd be in like a shot getting rid of them!

May I join the club?

I am 30 and I've had bunions as long as I can remember. My right foot is the worse. If I wear high heels (once in two months) my legs are crippled after an hour.

For mainstream not granny looking shoe otions I second Camper, they are worth every penny, some Hispanitas models work for me as well, and in the summer I live in havaianas. I do not particularly mind the bunion to show, often a nice pedicure helps to save the overall impression.

Wide fit shoes from New Look, Next and M&S also good options for us bunion sufferers.

I have this problem - need sandals with a wide band across the front. On holiday I'll wear toe post flip flops for casual wear, but don't like people looking at my feet.
Moshulu have these
and these £20 off that I can vouch for as really comfortable. I am very sad to have to admit I looked at the Hotter site this morning and found these which are just so much better than anything else they have ever had - and have loads of very favourable reviews. I've also invested in some fit flops with bands across the front which are very comfy, but look a bit odd, but I'll certainly try them for walking around the beach adn to the shops on holiday.

You are not the only one embarrassed by her feet. I have terrible bunions. I wish I had NORMAL FEET like others.
