Please help me find clothes to run in

I'm about to start running again - well jogging and ambling- and need some clothes that won't look too ridiculous.

I'm a 33 year old size 10 , 5"3 who is quite podgy.

I love Skapris because they cover my arse.. not that I run though...

You need stuff with a high lycra content that gives you a bit of support so you don't wobble too much. TBH, I think the skapri/skort things just make people wonder what you have to hide and stare at your thighs/hips/arse to see - it's the equivalent of tying your jumper round your waist in a vain effort to hide your bum! A t shirt that skims rather than clings or is a huge shapless effort is the most flattering.

I wear capri length running tights and a fitted t shirt.

Really good sports bra.

ChippyMinton · 22/05/2011 19:44

I have nike running capris and t-shirt (long enough to cover my backside) in their dri-fit fabric, which is suppose to wick away the sweat.
Most important items to get right are your running shoes and sports bra though. If you have you a branch of Sweatshop near you, the staff will fit you for both items.

Gosh, I do like those but I think I'd turn heads if I wore those around here!! (very rural dorset town)

Last time I wore (not very high) heels in the day time, I had 3 people asking me what the occasion was as I was so dressed up and wasn't dh luckyHmm.

Sportsbras, bugger I'd forgotten about them- I suppose the one I wore in my early 20s has probably had it 2 dcs later.

thanks for all suggestions so far

keep them coming ladies.

I think the look I'm aiming for is a cross between Julia Bradbury and Kate Humble going for a windswept run across the hills Grin

If you order tonight, Debenhams has offers on sports bras. I have this one

I also wear nike capris and a dri fit t shirt

TheGoddessBlossom · 22/05/2011 20:46

Out of stock in my size dotty! Poo bum!

BikeRunSki · 22/05/2011 20:49

Decent sports bra, highest impact absorbency. Shock Absorber (Debenhams and Bravissimo) or M&S own is good too.

On the cheap, and with time to spare, browse TKMaxx. If you fancy treating yourself, have a look at She Active and Sweaty Betty. Or M&S - My favorite running tights are a pair of M&S capris which must be getting on for 10 years old and still going strong.

But please go for proper wicking fabrics, they are far more comfy than cotton. Look for words like "Dri Fit" (Nike), "Coolmax" (a trade fabric used by several manufacturers) "Dry Flo" (Lowe Alpine).

And DECENT shoes. From a running shop, well fitted. Put a couple of hours and £70 aside.
