Summer foundation - which one to choose?

I need a new foundation/tinted moisturiser or some variation thereof and am really struggling to pick one given a mind-boggling array of options. Would really welcome your top recommendations for the summer. I'm 40 and have got decent skin wrinkles not too bad don't want to look cakey but do like a bit of cover. Got combination skin so serums and very creamy stuff slides off ... also going away to hot places over the summer so need something that will stay put.
Thank you!

.. have read backwards to see other posts on this and getting more and more confused! see bobbi brown and mac keep coming up, as does clinique. which of these is best? what about dior nude stuff? or chanel aqua vitalumiere? i don't want to break the bank but i don't mind paying for something really good that will last ..

Personally I love no7 triple action tinted moisturiser and I have combination skin also. Its light but not too light if that makes sense - perfect for summer and still has anti ageing properties in there too Smile

MissFoodie · 20/05/2011 11:44

I would go for tinted moisturiser or pressed powder in the heat, otherwise always looks shiney!

I fancy trying the Chanel Aqualumiere which is apparently a nuder version of their vitalumiere range.

I find Clinique very harsh.

I've been using Clarin'sInstant Smooth for about 2 yrs now, it's a moussey texture, so not too heavy, but I fancy a change for the summer.

Try Estee Lauder Sheer Tint Daywear SPF15 in a turqoise tube. £33 so, expensive but you don't need much and I find, it's good stuff. I use a little bronzer over the top of it, blush and.....I look like me only not "washed out" me!

AuntieMaggie · 20/05/2011 17:09

I've just started using the NO7 intelligent stuff and i really like it

I love the new Rimmel 25 hr lasting Finish. I have horrendous problems keeping foundation on my face but this is excellent. I need a decent level of coverage but hate matte cakey make-up, this stuff covers well, lasts and has a nice dewy finish. And its under a tenner. I often buy premium foundations but this is my current favourite.

QuinnFabray · 20/05/2011 19:01

If you use a decent primer, that will help most foundations stay on for longer.

I am 36, and have oily/combination skin. Most foundations slide off my face.

I use MAC spf 50 prep and prime, and this basically holds the foundation onto my face like glue ( in a good way! ).

I really like Diorskin Nude used in conjunction with the primer, although have recently tried Bourjois Healthy Mix and Bourjois 10 hour sleep effect. Amazingly, having truly believed that you get what you pay for with foundation, I absolutely love both of these. The Healthy Mix is fuller coverage, but they are both a lovely texture and not cakey at all. I'm converted, and only a tenner!

The Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere is nice, but I get shiney with it on, even with the primer. It's a slightly matter, fuller coverage than the normal Vitalumiere.

I use Lancome's tinted moisturiser and it's lovely and light.

dolceebanana · 20/05/2011 21:14

I have Bobbi Brown's tinted moisturiser balm and its fab...light coverage, and highly moisturising. Quite a dewy finish...

Havingkittens · 20/05/2011 22:14

Laura Mercier Oil Free tinted moisturiser for me, with a bit of MAC Pro Longwear concealer for the spots and dark circles and then a bit of loose powder on top.

follyfoot · 20/05/2011 22:25

Laura Mercier illuminating tinted moisturiser is all you need to know. Wonderful wonderful stuff.

Lasts for ages. Bought mine in Feb and its still going strong. It was recommended to me as the best tinted moisturiser around by a make up expert in New York.

RunningUphill · 21/05/2011 00:15

o brilliant, so many good ones to choose from! thank you so much everyone.

Blimey (re Aqua vitalumiere) I had imagined it was lighter coverage than the original! Thanks for the tip-off Quinn!

polyhymnia · 21/05/2011 10:28

Another Laura Mercier recommendation - have tried others but always come back to it.

follyfoot · 21/05/2011 10:32

PS no idea why I put 'in New York' in my previous message, that sounds like prattish showing off. Sorry Grin

ggirl · 21/05/2011 10:32

i 2nd dolceryvita's suggestion of Estee Lauder Sheer Tint Daywear SPF15
very very natural but makes a huge difference

wendihouse22 · 21/05/2011 12:00

Estee Lauder Sheer Tint Day Wear. Has an SPF15 and is not greasy just very very pretty and natural. And, lasts all day.

coffeenut · 21/05/2011 12:02

Mac pro longwear. Don't bother with tinted moisturisers if you like a bit of coverage.
