Question for any Fit Flop experts

About sizing.

I've just bought a pair of the "designer" ones (leather flowers on the top) in my usual size. I get them home and realise that, compared to my Electras the sole s noticeably smaller. Is it meant to be like that?

(I could still take them back, as they've not been outdoors and the tag's still on. Should I swop for a size up? I'm used to more clearance round my little toe. Or should I just acclimatise to them?)

I have been wearing them ever since they were first released in the UK. I haven't got the ones that you've mentioned so I don't know if they are sized differently.

I always try on as many sizes as possible in the same size and choose the ones which are most comfortable and have the best fit which usually means that I'll end up with a left and right from different pairs because there does seem to be some variation. You'll need the strap to be snug as the footbeds do seem to get trodden down a bit over time.

Personally, I would take them back and have a trying on session!

I might have to - I hadn't realised that the sizing could be a bit variable, especially as they feel fine and are a good fit round my foot. It's only the sole that seems smaller.

I think some of them have a narrower sole, (and I have an idea they are the flowery ones mainly) so if you want a pair of those, they advise you to try the next size up. Have a look on their website

polyhymnia · 20/05/2011 00:08

If that design is the Floretta as it sounds to be (there is also a Fiorella design with flowers, but that costs more), then it comes up a bit narrower than some other designs apparently. This is explained on the FF website - just google Fitflop, go to Floretta, and then sizing.

So I don't really know if going up a size would sort it or not. Suggest giving their customer services people a call as well as going back to a shop for further trying on just in case.

I splashed out - they're Fiorellas (only slightly more expensive than Florettas). Those two actually look the same (just that the latter have a heel strap).

Is it better to have the narrower sole (seems comfy, upper fits properly, but little toe might spill over a bit)? Or bigger sole, but perhaps wider fit on upper?

(I've been staring at the Electras, and realised that from the way I walk, my foot spills out on the inside anyhow - I never noticed, and I doubt anyone else ever does either).

I think the Fiorellas (Anna Sui designed apparently) are lovely - in fact, they are much nicer than the Florettas, IMO. More delicate. Really hanker after black ones.

Doesn't say on FF site that Fiorellas are a bit narrower than some styles, as it does with Florettas. I've tried them on and they seemed a good fit - but I do always go for a 42 in FFs, even though I'm normally a 41, to make sure I don't 'overspill' the sole at all.

If it were me, I might just go back and try the size up to see if they were a better fit, specially as that style is one of dearer ones and you should get loads of use out of them.

Yes, the florettas, fiorellas, frou, luna, pietras are all on the slim base. Walkstars, electras, rokkit, hoopers, gogh and all boots are on the normal base.

I personally hate the little toe splodging over the sides of the slim base so I don't buy them for that reason. No way I'm spending £££ for a sole that doesn't fit my hooves Grin

PinotGrigiosKittens · 20/05/2011 10:18

Forgot to say - Fitflop suggest going up a size of you have wide feet to get the slim sole to fit, but that leaves me with an inch or mores gap in front of my toes that looks stooopid so I don't.

I find it unfeasibly annoying that Fitflop have done this actually.

EdithWeston · 21/05/2011 18:37

Many thanks for your help everyone. I exchanged them today for one size up and that's much better.

Very silly and confusing to have such different sizing though!

When I bought my Fit Flops I tried on loads of styles and they all had a slightly different fit. I bought the most comfortable pair. I always find this is the case when buying footwear and never buy shoes without trying them on first.

polyhymnia · 22/05/2011 18:58

Hope you enjoy them Edith - sadly I'm not great at dealing with toe-posts myself, but I do think the Fiorellla are super cute.
