Fucking Hobbs

I am pre menstrual so probably over-reacting but need to rant.

3 weeks ago I saw a dress I liked on Hobbs website £99, rang up the Kings Rd branch and asked them to put it aside for me, went in the next day with my Red £25 gift card promotion that I hadn't used and bought it. Whilst I was there the assistant convinced me to buy a cardigan which was £49, I wasn't sure about it but checked if I could bring it back and she said that was fine.

Went in to Westfield to take the cardigan back today and was told I could only have £24 back (i.e. the £49 less the £25 voucher) as that was what I had paid for it. I said erm, no, I paid £123 for 2 things, I am keeping one so should be able to get the £49 back.

They said, no, on your receipt the £25 has been allocated against the cardigan so you can only have £24 back.

I started to get a bit irritated so they offered to ring customer services, same thing No. I then rang customer services, they said pretty much tough...did you not check your receipt to see how the voucher had been used. Erm No I didn't realise I had to.

I am really irritated by this as it felt like they were nit picking and being pedantic as though they would do anything not to honour the voucher. I said if the receipt had allocated the voucher as going against the dress would I have been able to get £49 back for the cardigan, they said yes. This is ridiculous, it was one transaction where I paid for two things.

Customer services then said, why didn't I go and speak to the manager at Kings Road branch and see what she said, I asked if the manager would be able to over-rule the apparent head office policy and they said err No but you can see what she says. The customer services member of staff I spoke to is going to speak to her supervisor and they are going to call me back but frankly I intend now to take both the dress and the cardigan back and get my £123 back and send a dress back that I have just ordered online which was £140.

I was just really annoyed about they way they were trying to make out it was impossible to overlook this even though it was their shop assitant's error in how she had processed this..it was just like sorry bad luck.

Anyway glad I got that off my chest, I won't be shopping there again in a hurry.

The whole red discount voucher card thing seems to have been a complete and utter disaster.

They will be wankers about it. I would do as you say and take both items back for a refund but then you are losing out on the £25 card.

Meggles76 · 19/05/2011 19:00

I would be inclined to go back to the shop with receipt and both items. Advise that if they do not agree to refund the cardigan in full, then you will be returning both items.

Will they give you the £25 voucher back to use again? if so, once they have done the refund, say you now want to buy the dress back using the voucher!!

This kind of thing makes me irate!!!

What a nightmare - tossers!

I haven't even used mine yet, to be honest I'm actually nervous about going in and using it at the till after hearing all the stories on here!!!!

Yes, I agree it's been a disaster Fimbo - hardly the publicity they wanted I expect....

cabbageroses · 19/05/2011 20:19

TBH I think Hobbs right- you can't expect your full price back if the discount was applied aganst it.

all you can do is return both items and ask if they are willing to give you a £5 voucher .

cabbageroses · 19/05/2011 20:19

£25! lol

gapants · 19/05/2011 20:24

Sounds like piss poor customer services, and good customer service is VITAL in an economy like this. Hobbs has it competitors and like many high street retailers I am sure cannot afford to be losing customers, having their name rubbished like this.

I would take it all back and write a letter to the MD.

Fimbo · 19/05/2011 20:48

I used it in Canterbury and bought a top for £10, but there was a lot of shops refused to take it when buying a t-shirts etc. We only have a concession in House of Fraser where of course you cannot use it. Luckily I remembered about it and took it on holiday hence the Canterbury purchase. My friend went to the York store when the card first appeared in the magazine and she said they didn't have a single thing under £59 and there was none of the £35 tops and under to be found.

cabbageroses · 19/05/2011 22:13

If you paid £99 for the dress and £24 for the cardi then you were entitled to £24 refund- not £49.

it's not nitpicking- it's how their tills and computer systems work.

They should have done something to ensure you got your £25 voucher honoured, but technically, they were right.

I have had this experience in other stores where a voucher is used; they take it off one item not the entire bill.

I have never returned anything and had your problem but i can see how it happens.

whoneedssleepanyway · 19/05/2011 22:34

I accidentally have two threads running.

The point cabbages is that the assistant knew I wasn't sure about the cardigan, I had no idea they applied the voucher against one item until I tried to take it back so I felt conned out of my voucher I wasn't given a choice at the time if I had been I would have insisted they put it against the dress. The systems argument is weak I work in retail and they could have sorted this.

Anyway good news customer service rang me and if I go in on Monday they will refund the full 49 which is great.
