Wasted 20 mins in there this morning, trying on tops and a skirt. Decided all were overpriced even w ith 20% off. £22 for a sleeveless cotton vest????????????

A button on the skirt feel off in the changing room, and the skirt had a loose thread hanging from the hem.

Is it really spin over subtance with them?
I used to pick up the odd top and cardi but now I find the prints- huge ones- really OTT and very little I'd buy- and all expensive.

I always go in for look and come out with nothing. Some of the shoes are not bad but thats about all. I think I have one t-shirt from there. Agree about the prices for load of tat, that you can spot someone wearing a mile away.

GollyHolightly · 19/05/2011 14:00

I love the style but good god a lot of it is tat. I have tops that have gone out of shape after a wash and threads hanging from trousers. I don't buy from them much anymore.

azazello · 19/05/2011 14:01

I agree. I bought a couple of tops from there and the fit is dreadful. I'm a fairly standard size 10. The tops strain over my chest and are uncomfortably tight on my not too flabby upper arms. I don't bother looking now.

Mumelie · 19/05/2011 14:05

Agree some of its tat. The tshirts are too fine, go into holes quickly and the knit wear bobbles easily. I do like some stuff though and have had a little spend with the 20% off today online. I do like the prints on skirts and dresses, but try not to look like a WS clone Wink

The knitwear is overpriced and poor quality. I had a lavender coloured knitted tunic type thing last year. It was £49.95. I washed it once and it looked like I'd picked it up in a charity shop (actually, that's an insult to charity shops!). It has spent the last few months on the end of the bed in our spare room. The cat sleeps on it. She's welcome to it.

cabbage I'm just back from the local White Stuff shop, lured in by their 20% off promotion. There were a couple of tunics I liked the look of in the catalogue, but in real life, they were dull, faded and looked very very shabby. I came out and ranted to dh over the phone...why would I pay good money to buy something that looked like it had gone through the wash a good few times already? I might have bought it if it were 10-20 quid, but for 50 bloody quid I expect quality!

There was a time (5-7 years ago) when I would travel to get to a White Stuff shop and never left disappointed. Sadly, those days are no more

I know I can get a sleeveless T shirt at Uniqlo for £6 instead of £22.

I bought a cardi a few weeks back and it has now got a tiny hole on the sleeve/shoulder seam - not noticeable and can't be bothered to return- but it's shoddy.

I used to love their stuff, but don't buy that much anymore - the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up! Recently bought a pair of cropped jeans and t-shirt, which are great, but I haven't washed them yet. Most of the knitwear looks like it would come out of the wash looking like a dish rag.

lucykate · 19/05/2011 18:13

admittedly all my white stuff knitwear hasn't washed well. it's shrunk even though i hand washed it with cold water. wouldn't even try and sell it on ebay tbh.

ThisisaSignofthetimes · 19/05/2011 18:19

Very overpriced and every top I try on is massive in the shoulder and I don't have small shoulders.

ManicAnnie · 19/05/2011 18:24

I like their tops as they are long and as a tall person, I have limited options if I want something that actually fits my long body.

I can't say I have ever been inspired to buy owt else from WS

lemonbiscuit · 19/05/2011 18:24

I'm afraid the same experiences, expensive clothes which look tatty/shrunken after washing. It's a real shame, because some of the designs and colours are lovely. Also, the clothes always look great layered together on the displays in the shop, but I usually find they are impractical in some way when you actually want to wear them.

dexter73 · 19/05/2011 18:44

ManicAnnie - you should try Uniqlo for tops. They are long, good quality and reasonably priced.
