Boden shopping spree

Scarlett175 · 17/05/2011 20:54

so for my birthday I have been given £300 of boden vouchers :)

have bought loads of their baby clothes but always admired the womenswear from afar. What would you bodenites recommend as a must buy for a curvy size 14 lady? and is it worth waiting for AW now??

worth waiting for sale/ preview discounts...note also there is a spend £100 get £25 off code.

Gillybobs · 17/05/2011 21:41

I swear by their straight leg jeans, nice slim fit but not too tight like skinnies. Sit comfortably on the waist too so no muffin top.

I also love the plain coloured cardigans, get loads of wear out of them and of course the breton top is an essential.

Although their shoes are expensive whenever I have splashed out I have NEVER regretted it, always a bit different and really comfy too

Lucky you, have fun.

mumtoted · 18/05/2011 07:59

Can you get to one of their shops so you can have a good trying on session?

tulpe · 18/05/2011 10:03

Agree with Gillybobs re jeans. I also like their straightleg cropped trousers (not the cropped jeans). They sit just a centimetre or so above my ankle and sit slightly loose around there so very flattering: none of this mid-calf chop your legs into unflattering shape/flapping around in the wind wide leg nonsense!! They also sit on the natural waist so eliminate muffin top and are perfectly shaped through the thigh & hip for curvy types :)

Also like their knitwear but wish they would do more merino/100% natural fibre basic cardis around the £35-40 mark.

Why not treat yourself to a few bits now and save the rest for some A/W items? The A/W preview with 20% off usually appears in July.

Rassy · 18/05/2011 10:48

Gillybobs and tulpe am thinking of the Boden straightleg jeans but the reviews are pretty awful. Did you buy any of this seasons straightleg jeans? Also, how tall are you? I'm 5ft 3 and don't know if the regular will be too long?

tulpe · 18/05/2011 11:15

Rassy I haven't bought any this season - the most recent pair I have are from autumn but have been buying at least a pair a season for the last couple of years. I usually buy in the sale as they are reduced to around the £25-30 mark. WRT to reviews, unless they are universally awful I tend to ignore and make my own mind up. eg the Chambray dress was slated online but I ordered it anyway as I liked the style and hey presto! perfect wardrobe staple :)

polyhymnia · 18/05/2011 12:43

tulpe, which are the straight leg cropped tousers (not jeans, as you say - have tried these and didn't like them) you recommend?

Are they this season? If so, I must be looking straight through them!

Gillybobs · 18/05/2011 12:43

Mine are last years too, Im 5.7" and wear the long length with a small heel or turn them up to wear with ballet flats. You could probably do the same with the regular length.

As tulpe says regarding the reviews, make up your own mind : )

polyhymnia · 18/05/2011 12:53

The time I find them useful is when there's a really consistent message coming through a lot of them that a particular item comes up small, or big.

Rassy · 18/05/2011 12:54

Thanks - will probably order and see how I get on!

JohnniesBitch · 18/05/2011 13:00

the maxi dresses in jersey are lovely, I have two now and can't wait for the sunny weather to come back so I can resume wearing them.
I find the jersey dresses very easy to wear but for some reason anything cotton/linen/viscose is pretty awful and not practical at all.

tulpe · 18/05/2011 14:06

*polyhymnia apologies they are called capris by Mr Boden! I am 5' 6" but short of leg so they rest just above my ankle bone on me. I don't think the photo does them justice tbh.

polyhymnia · 18/05/2011 16:11

Ah yes, in that case I agree with you as I have 3 pairs!

As I'm a little taller than you, would prefer them a tiny bit longer but otherwise they are perfect summer wear. (Might see if my clever alterations lady can let them down to get the nearer the ankle effect).

Agree waist is very comfortable and love the fact that, even in the large size I take, they're not baggy and flappy but shaped just right.

aftereight · 18/05/2011 17:25

A winter wool coat. Classic with a twist, toasty warm and dresses up jeans and boots in autumn/winter.
And a jersey dress, especially one of the fake wrap ones.

TantePiste · 18/05/2011 19:06

Since A/W preview will be coming soon, I would wait and see what the new line offers. The jersey twist tops are flattering for hourglass shape ladies (I am a fan) and there is often an attractive jersey dress. Also particularly like the knits, the boots and the bags.
There was a recent press event for the fall line:

Meggles76 · 18/05/2011 19:58

Agree with others - browse the site now and wait for the sale to order. Then check out the AW preview when it comes online and order with 20% off.

Good buys would be jeans, knit wear (their merino washes and wears better than their wool mix), a coat, a handbag and a decent pair of shoes / boots.

Scarlett175 · 18/05/2011 20:31

thanks everyone, think will definitely hold on til AW.

Do want to try the jeans, I am 5'7 but have short stumpy legs :)

Keep filling/unfilling my basket with different assortments, am soooo excited!!

If you google 'Boden party' there might be one near you where you could go and try on loads of things. I'm 5'4" and their trousers don't fit at all, and going to a party confirmed that none of them do :( At the one I went to anything you ordered was 20% off, or buy 3 things get the 4th for £1, and if you pretended to took a load of friends with you and got them to order on your behalf you get £25 credit for each friend who's a new customer.
