I have a week to get my badly damaged hair in as good condition as possible - help!

After my last thread about my hair bleaching disaster I have made an appt next week to have some darker colour threaded through. The lady at the salon said the more porous it is the more likely it will start to fade quickly so I want to try and get it in great condition by then.

I have been using these:-

www.louisegalvin.com/natural-locks/natural-locks-deep-conditioning-treatment

But I would appreciate any advice on other/better products.

Thanks :)

erm, have it cut ?

that is the quickest and easiest way

Mamaz0n · 17/05/2011 09:51

my tip is to wash your hair in luke warm water but rinse in cold.

AngryFeet · 17/05/2011 09:54

Well agreed AnyFucker but unless I shave it off I will not be able to remove all the damage! Also I have curly/frizzy hair so I have to have it long enough to have in a ponytail otherwise I will have to style it everyday which will damage it more.

I always found the good old fashioned hot oil teatment capsules very good, think it was VO5 who made them, you stick them in a mug of boling water for a few minutes then massage the hot oil onto dry hair. Not sure if they are still around but I'd do one of them every day til your appointment

I recently did lots of things to my hair and found it was dry and getting a sort of singed look at the ends. I had an inch cut off, but I also had the Loreal Fiberceutic treatment. I didn't really notice any difference to the condition after the treatment.

Then, a few days later I dug out my Ojon restorative hair ritual stuff (its a smokey/coffee/chocolatey smelling solid oil in a pot) and used that for a couple of hours and rinsed it out, and it made a major difference.

So expensive salon treatment, not so good, Ojon treatment, excellent! I highly recommend it. I'd never quite noticed just how good this treatment was because I didn't actually have damaged dry hair before as I never used to bleach, but since actually having damaged hair, I've realised just how effective it is.

Can't recommend it enough.

I have been using L'Oreal Full Restore 5 shampoo & conditioner on my very dry and knackered over-processed hair and it has worked wonders. In addition, I also use the tiniest amount of Kerastase Elixir Ultime. It is amazing and I now have shiny, swishy, healthy hair.

I tried tha Louise Galvin mask and it didnt do anything for my hair, which is v thick, dry and frizzy....A'kin do a good shea butter hair mask that you can also leave on overnight, but the best I found was Gielly Green repair mask, which is not cheap, but the first one I used that allowed me to comb my hair without a serum!

A cheapo option is John Frieda Damage Repair Mask, but it is full of silicones....so not good for regular use as can cause build up

Works wonders on my frizzy hair to stop it drying out.

Get thee to a salon and have a Keratin treatment, then do a deep conditioning with keratin every night, leaving it on for as long as you can.

Don't blow dry/ style between now and then and do not brush your hair whilst wet.

Oh and just get the bottom cm of dead ends snipped off.

winefairy · 17/05/2011 14:27

I second the Ojon stuff. I have been known to leave it in overnight which works a treat. I even have a special old pillowcase for the event. Blush It does take quite a bit of getting used to the smell though!

John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum. It now comes in extra strength, and it manages to tame my newly blonde (previously deep plum, so it's had a fair old bit of bleaching) hair.
