sure as hell beats skinny jeans, cargos, drop crotchers, harems and capri pants the likes of which I have yet to see look good on anyone.
If they are a linen mix they keep their shape too. I love them in white with a Breton top. They are flattering and not try hard.
Say it loud and proud ladies ;)...

Cece as an apple I can recommend their bubble hem tops to go with linen troos. It is like striking gold to find something flattering when you aren't blessed with a waist but the rest of you is ok actually...

I don't understand why so many MN hate linen trousers yet fully embrace Fit flops. Double standards!

higgle · 17/05/2011 07:32

"I don't understand why so many MN hate linen trousers" ...it was the mention of semi elasticated waists on this thread that sent me running for the hills..NEVER

sahm3 · 17/05/2011 07:41

I don't think there is anything wrong with a good quality, tailored pair of linens. I am sure those that hate them just can't find a smart, non baggy bottomed pair for thier backsides. I do avoid black trousers of any kind though.

Longtalljosie · 17/05/2011 07:44

I got these for my birthday and I loovvveee them

naturelover · 17/05/2011 07:45

Thanks for this thread!
I also live in mine - I have beige, white, taupe. They have waistbands not elastic and are very long. I am tall and slim. I think they look good. I only wear the white ones with very long tops because they are slightly sheer.
Someone linked a while ago to some at Kookai that looked very chic.

bronze · 17/05/2011 08:00

I don't get the problem with elasticated waists either if you're top is covering it. Some people should be thankful they can be so picky.

If you want a challenge find me a nice pair of proper waisted ones. Inside leg... 34-36waist 30-32 hips 44ish

Apologies my post wasn't meant to appear twice!

EttiKetti · 17/05/2011 08:05

I love linen, in any form but especially my fitted linen trousers, no drawstring, no patch pockets, no saggyarse. LOVE them, might buy a white pair and a breton top today in fact!

Lipstickgal · 17/05/2011 09:36

Actually the elastic is quite unnoticeable as it's just a small section at the back. I would love to wear a fitted waistband and it must bevwonderful for those that can, but there doesn't seem to trousers tailored to my shape- the hips are very voluminous if it fits on the waist. ANYWAY we all have our bug bears. I always cover the waistband and I have had compliments aplenty because all you see are the trousers from mid hip down on me. I am blessed with 30 inch legs on a 5'3 frame. I think that's why things are so compact around my middle. ;)......

these are lovely. Best of all our Kew has a permanent clearance sale on the top floor, so I got them for £15 :)

Ambernj1 · 17/05/2011 09:43

I have got these and they are excellent for pregnant ladies such as myself in spite of not being maternity. Highly recommend them, even if they do make me a fashion outcast!

Don't tell anyone, but I even wear them with my Fitflops...

Lipstickgal · 17/05/2011 09:45

Bronze I envy your hourglass shape!

Ooooh I am totally getting the Granada MOnsoon thing. Tempted to give them a go as they are clearly 'accommodating'! Yay!

Lipstickgal · 17/05/2011 09:51

Yea gods what is wrong with fit flops? Not another item outlawed by the style police on here surely?

OP posts:
bronze · 17/05/2011 09:55

I wouldn't lipstick
Nothing fits
I look like gloria from madagasca from behind but am normal in profile
it doesn't look a lovely hourglass a la a filmstar more frumpy

Lipstickgal · 17/05/2011 10:07

Well Bronze it sounds to me that you have a knockout figure!!! I totally understand the difficulties in finding clothes to fit and how that impacts on the self image but let's break it down:
You are leggy
You have the holy Grail proportions of the waist being inches smaller than the hips- the main fertility signifier that drives men crazy according to scientists....
Hence the envy.
It sounds to me your difficulty would be finding clothes to showcase such fabulous figure in all it's glory rather than disguise aspects.

these are really nice. Proper waist band and pockets and they hem them to your length. come up big though. I'm a 12 (and that's a Boden 12) and I'm very happy with size 6.

bronze · 17/05/2011 10:36

Thank you Lipstick... I do love you a little Grin I agree it's the clothes really. When I find something that fits I feel really good

Anyway linen trousers, if anyone finds any that would fit me I will adore you (and maybe stalk you if you would like Wink )

Cattleprod · 17/05/2011 10:42

Don't you lot care that pale linen trousers are completely see-through, no matter how expensive they are and how well they fit? Everybody will be able to see the style, colour and pattern of your underwear, the style of your fanjo topiary if your underwear is sheer or non-existant, any cellulite, spots on your arse, secret tattoos etc.

Lipstickgal · 17/05/2011 10:49

Dear Cattleprod. You are quite incorrect. Nude underwear does the trick fine thank-you. There is also this little thing called a top that might eliminate any concerns you have about your boils/tattoos etc. Most people have no problem in with coping with such 'pressing' issues such a you raised owing to aforementioned .........TOP. Taaadaaaaa. That is all.

OP posts:
Cattleprod · 17/05/2011 11:11

The trouble is, lipstick, that people only look at themselves in the mirror from the front. So they might think 'Ooh, nice long top, covers my flange nicely, so no camel toe problems', but they don't realise that their arse cheeks hang lower than the coverage of said top can accommodate, leaving an exposed area at the back.

Believe me, I've followed many, many wobbly floral, lacy or animal print clad posteriors down the street, thinly and ineffectively disguised with a whisper of linen. Grin

Lipstickgal · 17/05/2011 11:20

I for one check all the way round for VPL. No problems to report here. Over.
