Fat lasses ball gown

IdontknowwhyIcare · 16/05/2011 14:42

Sadly I am an organiser of a ball this autumn and I need to look the part. Whilst I realise its going to be very difficult to make a fat ageing frizzy haired person look halfway respectable I really do need a frock. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get a good cheap frock.

Durrr sorry on phone so no bookmarks.

Umm, nope currently no redeming features. Have very Charlotte Church cankles, shoulders are well padded and attached to delightful bingo wings. As I write this I realise I need to get myself in hand and I am. I've joined another thread in Big/Slim/whatever.
Budget, hmm probably 150GBP at the most, because of course I will need the wide fitting shoes to go with the frock.

Probably something with some sort of sleeve? I've had my colours done and I am a winter but probably not black as thats what I wear everytime.

Thanks for the links I shall have a look.

I'm sorry but the phrase " I have no redeeming features " is not permitted on mumsnet

You just said you have good shoulders so you can so one of these sexy wide neck slightly off the shoulder gowns that look silly on the bony.

And you must get your hair sorted out. There are loads of threads on style and beauty for frizzy hair. And big gals can carry off statement jewellery with a frock

We expect nothing less than fabulousness

AlpinePony · 17/05/2011 08:35

I love igigi - I've ordered from them in the past and whilst their shipping prices are horrendous (look/pay then banish from your mind! Wink) the stuff was beautiful and fitted well. When I lost weight I sold it on ebay for a small fortune. :)

I'm getting married later this year and whilst I've told myself I am not buying a stupid white dress I am severely tempted!

IdontknowwhyIcare · 17/05/2011 08:39

Hangs head in shame at finger wagging from KristinaM. I guess its just that moment where thats what I feel like, but then I have no-one to blame but myself, so I WILL get myself in order and fabulousness WILL be the order of the day. In fact when i get my hair done (its very humid here) it looks better than the model on iggi ;-) yay me.

The ball isnt till the end of October, although if I didnt eat from now till then I still wouldnt be skinny as there is alot to lose, having said that I will work at it and make progress.

www.curvety.com stocks some Igigi clothing.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 17/05/2011 08:57

wrt shoes, I noted with interest that New Look have loads of wide fitting ones. The ones I saw were all way too high and/or horrible but it has to be worth a gander.

IdontknowwhyIcare · 17/05/2011 09:08

Alpine Pony, congrats on the upcoming wedding, how very exciting. If you dont get the white dress what will you wear?

OP posts:
IdontknowwhyIcare · 17/05/2011 09:09

Oh yes actual size, hmm 20/22. I dont have a very large cup size but do have a wide and fat back. Apple tummy and aformentioned cankles!!!

lol at mildmanneredjanitor, you are very motivational ;-) congratulations on the downward loss, very exciting for you.
Um 5ft 5" I guess, I have no scales, lots of linen trousers made by the tailor so no idea of size really but def 20/22 going by the clothes I still have from my previous life.

That looks lovely. I think I need to start collecting pics of what I like and when I'm back in the Uk this summer I can try some dresses on and make a decision as to what I think will suit me.
It is quite a posh do, at the British embassy, and my responsibility is to organise the decorations, which I have no problem with but I think people might look at me as part of the comittee. So I think I should be blending into the wallpaper conservative.

Sorry to mention the dreaded word but BOden have some glorious maxi dresses with a sparkling section under the bust. They are wide strapped so allows for a good bra with added upholstery to balance the figure out.I am an apple shape too and find that an empire line without swathes of material below the bust to be most flattering. The two color ways that I think would suit a fellow winter are the pewter for a subtle look and the jade green. I am thinking pop some glamourous silver heels on and a shrug and you're done. Also the dress can be dressed down afterwards and worn again so , er bargain.......

AlpinePony · 17/05/2011 10:38

Oh sod the dress - just make sure you've got enough Ferrero Rocher.*

If I don't wear a white dress I'll probably just buy a "nice" dress which is a bit too fancy for anything else but can be re-worn. I'm 37 and have a baby, I'm not going to fool anyone with the virgin shtick! Wink

Apols for the FR joke - it's just I've been an expat "forever" and it's an ooooold joke.

alizee · 18/05/2011 12:10

this - i think it's gorgeous :)

this is slightly out of budget but it's nice and flattering i think
