In order to have a going away outfit you need to do a big 'going-away', ideally while the grannies etc are all there to see you do it. And then not come back to the party, or see anyone the next day, otherwise you wouldn't have 'gone away'.

I sometimes do change if I want to do a lot of dancing later, but only ever from a dress to trousers/nice top. Why not if ya want?!

Jeez, it's difficult/expenisve enough finding one outfit is it not? I have been known to take a flat pair of pumps to change into before ceilidh though (yes, another Scottish wedding-er here, assuming lack of time to change due to drinking time!)

Ive personally never seen anyone change at a Scottish Wedding, there is simply no opportunity to do it and it isnt the norm at all here. But my Sister has been to a few weddings in England where there seems to be a break between the daytime and evening functions? Is that often the case English MNers?

I went to an Iranian wedding in the US a number of years ago and everyone got changed in the evening into full on black tie....

That is the only wedding I have ever been to where people have changed though.

I think it depends on your culture, it would more unusual I'm English culture to change outfits, but in other cultures African for I stance, it would be perfectly normal.

Now you put it like that, all wedding outfits should come with a Bucks Fizz style skirt, so at a pre-arranged point, the ladies can whip off their maxi-dress to reveal their 'buffet and disco' outfit underneath.

The first part of the wedding I.e church/Registry starts off with the normal White wedding dress as we all know, then in the evening, they change into these marvellous traditional African clothes.
