Dark brown hair with grey hair coming through

I have got away without having to colour my hair so far (I'm in my forties) but it's just beginning to notice here and there that I've got some grey coming through.

I don't want a full hair dye, but I have bought one of those wash in hair colours that last for 3 washes.

Does anybody know if this will cover the odd grey bit? Or if not what can I do?

No it wont ahve any lasting effect on grey hair

you are ging to have to bite the bullet and either embrace your grey or start the process of dying, either by dyeing with a similar colour to yours or lowlights that lighten your shade a bit to disguise grey

Something so gentle may not be oomphy enough to cover the grey, as grey hair can be very resistant. A semi 24 wash colour might be better. The colour will gradually wash away so it won't be a major shock if you have never colured before.
When the buggers really start coming through, you may have to upgrade to the hard stuff.
Of course I'm only talking from what my friends say, I'm young and lovely with natural brown locks Wink

Obviously that should say coloured but I have had wine.

I'm in the same boat and currently use Lush's henna (the brown "brun" one) which pretty much covers or at least darkens the greys and leaves all my hair in really good condition.

Would like to think I'll let the grey come through in the long term and not get stuck in the permanent / semi permanent dye cycle but am a bit concerned about the texture of my greys as I have quite curly hair anyway.

Not sure about the wash in stuff but would recommend Lush's henna.

3 wash stuff will not touch it. Use a 24 wash one.

I also have deep brown hair with the grey coming through, very lightly all over but also in one long stripe at the front on the left hand side, (very rogue esk from x-men) i have coloured it lots, the best results are from salons, but when i can't afford it i use boxes and the permant stuff works the best. But as some has said embrace it, that is what i am doing, and i just turned 29 Smile

LakeFlyPie how long do you have to leave the henna on?

Looks like the other option is a 24 wash one.

Thanks

I colour my hair with permanant nice and easy every six weeks, a similar colour to natural colour.
It is very simple to do and covers all the grey.

Early 20's can't remember when exactly. I think myself lucky my brothers got my fathers hair line, it is receeding nicely and he is going bald at the back Grin soon it will all meet up.

LakeFlyPie · 15/05/2011 21:42

I put henna on early evening and try and leave it for at least 3 hours, apparently you can leave it overnight but I prefer to be able to rinse it out in a toddler / baby free zone Grin

I have dark brown hair and use 24 wash - L'oreal in 'berry red'. It covers grey very well. I figure than dying it a slightly 'unnatural' colour makes it look like I'm dying it for style reasons rather than just to cover the grey!
