Clothes for an interview

Ok having a tiny (irrational) freak out atm. Brought a suit for my first ever professional job interview a few days ago. Its very competitive with over 1000+ applications for around 50 positions.

So my pants suit is charcoal colour and I have a silk top to go with it - its sleeveless, pink with a bit of a ruffle you can see under my jacket. Now I'm wondering if I should of brought a button up shirt? From reading online I gather you should wear a black skirt-suit with a white shirt.

I know I'm over thinking this but I really want this job! I don't know anyone professional enough to own a proper business suit well enough to ask.

I work in recruitment. It sounds fine. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and are wearing something you don't have to keep fiddling with or adjusting.

Good luck with your interview.

I think it sounds lovely! I hate it when everyone wears a uniform. Yours shows a bit of independent character :)

I used to work in recruitment and i agree with luvvies. If anything I would say the black suit and white shirt combo is a bit dated and lacking in style. I also think you need to have a really good quality, fine wool suit to carry it off and a lot on the high street don't cut it!

I also would suggest decent shoes, not to high, so that you can walk elegantly and nice subtle make up. Go easy on the fake tan, not too over powering perfume and tasteful jewellery. I now its quite preppy but a plain pearl necklace (doesn't matter if its fake) and stud pearl earrings always look good and not too on trend as to be off putting.

I have interviewed countless people and the things that instantly put me off were tacky hoop evenings, heavy very dark eye make up and too much skin exposed. I also hated it when candidates smelt of cigarette smoke, made the whole interview room smell for ages after!!

good luck!

ps make sure you give a nice firm handshake and be smiley and approachable.
