Where to buy a chic dress for a 2.5 yr old?

Hi I'm looking for a beautiful dress for my 2.5 yr old. Something chic, maybe classic but not too twee or avant garde. Don't like lairy colours. Something in blue or a touch of blue would be good.

Where do you suggest I look?

Places I've tried so far with no success include Jojo Maman Bebe, John Lewis, White Company, Petit Bateau, Zara, Pumkin Patch.

Does anyone know the name of any children's boutiques?

Many thanks.

Bonpoint, Caramel Baby, Hucklebones, Marie Chantal.

Not that 'chic' and 2-1/2 year olds are two concepts that necessarily go together!

obaibi, They are a lovely french company who are really reasonably priced and great quality. I get my daughter lots of little complete outfits from them, and everything tends to be in fairly muted colours- lots of whites, dusky pinks pale blue. They have a shop I go to whenever I am in northern ireland but they could have shops in other parts of the country too.

Jigsaw has the most beautiful dresses I have seen. Sadly I only have boys therefore cannot indulge.

Neck and neck - lots of beautiful liberty print dresses. Brora also has some lovely girls stuff but IMO the sizing is a bit odd.

scarlettsmummy2 · 14/05/2011 13:46

their website is www.okaidi.com

They are quite small fitting, my daughter is average sized 2.5 and I buy her age three.

What do you want? Something French investment bankers would put their kids in (lots of darker colours, dirndles, next to no patterns) or something 'pretty'?

I'd go Bonpoint for the former, Catimini, Marese, Cacharel for the latter.

Or, search vintage items on eBay. I've bought some lovely silk dresses and little kilts etc

Oh, Chelsea Clothing Company on King's Road next to Peter Jones does dresses in Liberty tana lawn with smocking.

If you don't mind potentially wasting your time, try TKMaxx.
I have bought DD some gorgeous dresses from there, a good number of the labels have been mentioned above.
Its obviously a bit hit or miss.

I loved the T-Dresses from Boden. The only thing I've ever liked!!

Mini A Ture does some lovely stuff - it's a danish brand, I think. You can find it here amongst other places.

No Added Sugar is generally more funky, but they have a dress called 'Tie The Knot' this season which is a bit more classic, and blue.

Whereabouts do you live? As far as boutiques go I know Igloo Kids has a few shops over London and Felix & Lily in Angel, Islington. Both of these shops will make you do that how much?! face so be warned!

Doozie · 14/05/2011 14:44

Thanks everyone! This is great. It is more understated and stylish I'm looking for rather than frou-frou, but needing something a little more dressy of that ilk.

Otchayaniye - no toddler and chic don't really belong in the same sentence but your suggestions tick the box.

I was shopping for a particular occassion, but now I'm on a shopping spree!

Ralph Lauren lovely and classic. Also second agree Marie Chantal and Bonpoint.
