I agree, actually, even thought I've got one (it's quite old, in my defence) It's one of the shopper ones - I like that it's waterproof

keep · 13/05/2011 16:37

Dexter, i think there's a book which comes with an easy to sew bag pattern and material. Think it's called, Make.

dexter73 · 13/05/2011 16:56

Take a home made bag to school, keep!!!??? Can you imagine the embarrassment! It has to be CK or else it's not cool. Bloody teenagers!
I do make my own bags - I have a couple of patterns for shoulder bags and they are really lovely and you get to choose exactly what fabric you like. Mind you the last one I made cost £30 just for the fabric Blush!

dexter73 · 13/05/2011 17:03

This is the pattern I have - I have made the bag with the tie handles and the tote bag.

TheProvincialLady · 13/05/2011 17:11

They are very, very naff indeed. And I say that as someone who likes floral things. Just not overpriced. overexposed tat.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 13/05/2011 18:26

Some people will think they're naff as they're now everywhere...I think if you like, get one. Please yourself not anybugger else.

SybilBeddows · 13/05/2011 18:31

I counted 12 on the Brownsea Island ferry.

and 2 at dd's schoolgate which means they can't be stylish any more because we are very fashion-backward at our school.

Meggles76 · 13/05/2011 18:48

I am not a fan - I especially dislike the floral ones.

EggyAllenPoe · 13/05/2011 18:58

PICKYOURBRAIN
are you trying to sell the nightie to me?

i rather like one or two of them, problem with them is

  1. everyone it seems, has one.
  2. some are practically made (the oilcloth ones) but the cloth ones could end up colouring paperwork/stuff/ nappies if got wet, and the more satchelly ones would catch on things i fear (prominent fastenings).
  3. the choice of styles...it puts me rather in mind of clothes from 1990-2

i had something like this in mind but less busy and in aqua .. just slightly different. there was one in Majorca for a mere 85eu

i probably won't though - i hate having to transfer my stuff out of my usual handbag, it always results in embarrassing no purse/ no phone moments.

blossomtrees · 13/05/2011 18:58

i love the floral ones but have been buying more Primark ones with matching purse. Smile Each to their own,The Cath Kidston ones last for ages and always have resell value on Ebay I hate plain bags whats the point ?

chipstick10 · 13/05/2011 19:38

Her ironing board covers are brilliant. My last one lasted nearly three years. Shock

SybilBeddows · 13/05/2011 20:21

only three years? how long do they normally last you?

nethunsreject · 13/05/2011 21:02

I use one as a changing bag for the baby. It's fab and as it is oilcloth, it doesn't get soaked in the pissing rain.

Don't think I'd use one as an actual handbag though, although I do love the floral-tastic stuff.

peasandlove · 14/05/2011 04:57

I got my 3 SIL's book bags for xmas and they love them.

BranchingOut · 14/05/2011 06:29

I recently bought a shopper/tote style for a trip away and love it. It holds loads of stuff and I am now using it each week for taking my son swimming.

kerstina · 14/05/2011 09:09

I was at a market in Macyclinneth Wales and spotted some bags similar to Cath Kidson but more original looking and cheaper ! Everyone the lady hand makes is a one off. Eleanors Attic .

CristinaTheAstonishing · 14/05/2011 11:13

I thought CK bags came with the Bounty bags when you have a baby. They seem to round this area. The CK fairy missed me, glad to say.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 14/05/2011 11:17

Dexter - I'm not surprised that something rather naff can become a fashion statement amongst teenagers. But these have been around for ages, they are not fresh, new naff items.

moominthecorner · 14/05/2011 11:17

I like them. I have one i use to haul my stuff for work including my knitting. I work in canary wharf and am the only person at my place with a flowery bag and I love that! It's v easy to suffer death by La Kidston but in small doses it's fun. Don't hate me!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 14/05/2011 11:21

Moomim - the 'small doses' is the key. Wimbledon was absolutely full of them, the Bugaboo and the CK bag seemed compulsory when you had a baby about 7 years ago. I still think of nappies when I see the bags.

malachysmum · 14/05/2011 11:53

Oh I bought myself a CK duvet cover and pillows as a reward to myself for giving up smoking, everytime I look at it I think, I deserve that. It might just be the sleep deprivation talking (;

Mumelie · 14/05/2011 14:04

I love my Cath Kidston handbag, great size, practical, and no one else I know has it. Plus will have a good ebay resale value when I get bored with it. Wink

I prefer Radley bags myself and Orla Kiely bags, the Cath ones are cute but not found one I like and want enough to buy it,would probably suit my 6 year old better than me x

Hassled · 14/05/2011 14:17

I quite like them, but they do scream Cath Kidston at you. Ditto Orla Kierly. I like handbags that don't shout their brand, IYSWIM. Mulberry the exception.
