What shape are you? Are you curvy? Good tits, a waist and a bum? Or more of an apple? You will probably have a large bosom - can you get a mock wrap dress (less worry about it gaping open) which will show off your bosom with a deep V? (People will then focus on the top bit of you rather than a round tummy.) I would go for something a bit fitted, otherwise you will look like a ship in full sail. What is your budget?

lubeybooby · 13/05/2011 07:54

I'm an 18 and second what MrsSchadenfreude said. Knee length wrap dresses all the way for me

Rubyl1978 · 13/05/2011 09:25

Hi thanks for the replies, im curvy as in big boobs, big hips, have a waist but the belly underneath it gives me the boak lol. Just had my 2nd child by c/section 7 months ago so have what they nicely call an apron!! Nice legs and a gid pair of bingo wings :( budget aboot £200 for everything (dress, shoes, bag and of course I'll need sum kinda hold me in miracle pants!)

Get a spray tan done, it takes pounds off, buy the best conntrol underwear you can afford and then a dress along these lines here with lots of ruching is so forgiving

I'd also get some really on trend shoes (try Topshop or Moda in Pelle) as find this always makes me feel a bit trendier.

Right, get yourself down to Phase Eight and try on this dress in a size 18. It's jersey so will stretch. I saw it on a curvy woman and she looked stunning. You could wear it with a black, grey or blue jacket.

MoonGirl1981 · 13/05/2011 12:18

Dresses look excellent on 'larger' women (and size 18/20 isn't that large)!

If you're bigger you can wear bold patterns (on smaller girls it looks like the pattern is wearing them!

If you have nice tits show them off a bit! I agree with the wrap dress idea or something similar.

Have a scoot round somewhere like Monsoon.

BUMP!

Same situation here too. Only not such great legs either. Any more suggestions please?

JackieNo · 13/05/2011 18:49

I'm larger than you, and I tried on \link{http://www.monsoon.co.uk/all-dresses/larch-print-dress/invt/85344976/\this from Monsoon} the other day, and it looked good - v flattering. Sleeves to cover the arms. Good length on me (not too short). I actually ended up buying \link{http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_028010464960_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7EWomen%7EDresses\this}, as it was cheaper Blush. It's a lot longer on me - knee length. I can really recommend a visit to Debenhams - I loved loads of the Betty Jackson Black range (but I was buying for an interview, not a wedding, so many of them were too weddingy for what I was after).

TessOfTheDinnerbells · 14/05/2011 11:17

Yes, I love the Betty Jackson dresses & have one already. Guess I am just very aware of my size and am looking for ideas on how to appear slimmer (as if that really is possible)

FanjoForTheMusic · 14/05/2011 20:20

Good underwear is a must, including a slip and a camisole so your dress doesn't stick to any podgy bits. I'm a fan of wrap dresses too, have had some nice ones from Bravissimo.

Rubyl1978 · 15/05/2011 01:27

Ive narrowed down my search for the dress, does anyone know of a dress that does the following.....makes your legs look longer, makes your hips look smaller, waist smaller, boobs perkier and in the right place and gets of bingo wings altogether. Plz would love more suggestions or a miracle cure. Thanks for the above suggestions, love the first dress but a bit pricey. xx

I like this dress www.next.co.uk/shopping/women-plus-size-collections/signature/2/4

ettiketti · 15/05/2011 05:50

DO NOT BUY JERSEY IF YOU HAVE AN APRON!!

sorry to whoever suggested it but nooooo. Wish I could take you shopping, we sound similar, I'm a 16 hourglass but apron due to large, rapid weight loss and two cs. Monsoon have great stuff, Wallis had a couple but it was before they filled their rails with jungle prints Hmm.

How about a maxi dress and mini cardi? Or wrap? Will find links when in laptop cos on phone now...

ettiketti · 15/05/2011 05:51

Ps Bon Marche has fugly but fantastic suck it in pants for 7 quid. High so no overhang!
