moissanite rings

I'm going to ask DP for an eternity ring for my next birthday pressie. I would like a platinum/white gold setting but I'm not interested in diamonds for ethical (and financial) reasons.

Anyone know any shops in UK, London specifically, that stock moissanite (lab-created, look same as diamonds but much cheaper!) rings? I've looked online and there are loads of e-shops that do them but I would like to see and try before buying.
Thanks!

You're more likely to find cubiz zirconia in this country. It's the most prevalent simulated stone ( I've seen some great diamond cut examples as well)

Thanks bethelbeth. I always thought cubic zirconia was a bit dull and glassy-looking but will do a bit more research!

I think jewel nation stocks it (if not moissanite it's a similar simulated diamond range) they have got branches around the uk and website.

When cubic zirconia became popular that was the trend- big glassy impossibly big and bling
There are so many ways that it can be cut that it has the same facets as a diamond. There's some very good ones out there- it's not uncommon for ladies to request a copy of their engagement ring for everyday wear in cz.
Next trade show I will keep an eye out for you- but I'd suggest to have a look in independent jewellers as they tend to carry a less 'safe' style of jewellery and are more likely to have moissanite

Thanks ladies, very useful info x

Have a look at www.carat.cc - fairly realistic and expensive enough to be a good replica, gold set (white or yellow) and beautifully sparkly. I have pear cut earrings that I wear every day and compared to my real (smaller!) diamond studs, they have as much fire and sparkle

Moissanite is surprisingly expensive for a fake, lab-created stone. And there's no mystery about a synthetic stone. You might as well buy a piece of plastic.

If you want a piece of costume jewellery, fine, but it's a poor choice for symbolic, commemmorative jewellery.

If you have an objection to diamonds and don't want to go into the effort and expense of sourcing ethical ones (eg GIA certified or antique diamonds) I'd go for a semi-precious stone.

Just a thought but have you looked at QVC, they do diamonique own brand created diamond. Mum has one as a solitaire to replace her engagement ring which got too small and couldnt be stretched without ruining pattern. Got it cleaned recently and jeweller was very impressed with quality.

To be honest, reviewing everything, to get what you are looking for it might be just as easy/cost effective to have something made. If you have a particular look in mind then it can be extremely easy.

Feel free to pm me if you are in any doubt, I'm in Glasgow so not much practical use I'm afraid but advice is free Wink
