Hair disaster, please help

I had a special offer recently for Hair on Broadway so I went yesterday for a tint and cut and blow dry.

I really hate it and I don't know what to do. Firstly I don't like the way she blow-dried it, I look like a Sindy doll and had to wear it tied up yesterday. But I can live with that as it only lasts till the next wash. But, much much worse, I hate the colour.

I have dark chestnut-y brown hair (well before the grey anyway!) with some lighter hi-lights. I felt the overall effect was too light so I explained to her that I just wanted a tint in a nice natural mid-brown colour. They didn't have a shade card which was I surprised about and it was difficult to explain the exact colour I wanted in words. She showed me a few magazines to get an idea but not quite the same as a shade card.

Anyway it's come out so dark, it doesn't suit me at all and I hate it. I don't know whether to go back to HOB or cut my losses and see what my (friend) hairdresser can do, she works from home.

I'm not really used to the whole salon thing, I don't have a regular hairdresser so don't know if I should tell them or not.

Phone them up and Just say u went home 'lived' with it for a bit and u feel it's too dark for you. They should either give u a re-fund or fix it for free. it's basic customer service.

The worst they can say is no but many salons thrive on customer recommendations. It's unlikely that they'd say 'tough luck' as they could potentially lose a lot more money than the cost of fixing ur hair if u tell ur friends u weren't happy they tell their friends etc etc it's bad press for the salon.

Ring back and tell them yo're not happy. You should be able to get it corrected for free.
Also they should have colour charts and hair samples to show you! Not your fault at all.

I had the same thing happen to me, it's awful when you feel bad about your hair. Anyway your hair will lighten up after a few washes, try using head and shoulders to speed this up. If it's a semi permanent colour, I think it will only really last about 6-8 weeks, what my hairdresser said anyway.

My hair disaster happened via a groupon deal not my regular hairdresser - I would be v v wary of 'special' offers in the future!!

I would be wary about going back to a salon that cocked my hair up first time round, and didn't have a shade chart. I don't think I believe them, colour companies give them away free to salons. Maybe they didn't want you to choose a colour that they then didn't have in stock more lightly.

Try washing your hair a few times in head and shoulders, or with this beautiful weather, a few hours sat in the sunshine will soon lift it.

Well I called the salon today and they were v helpful. They said they don't like their clients to go away unhappy which is good news. But the head colourist I spoke to said something a bit odd when I asked about shade charts: she said they're 'not allowed' to show hair samples because they often look different to the actual colour!

Anyway I have arranged to go in on Friday morning but I'm a bit worried now.

Strange, I've never been to a salon that hasn't shown any colour charts or samples!
I had a nasty hair disaster last year, my hair ended up strawberry blonde rather than light brown... it was utterly horrible and very hard to fix.

Dancergirl · 14/05/2011 20:11

Well I went back yesterday and they sorted out the colour and it's much better. I don't know what they did exactly but it involved bleach and I'm just a bit worried about the effect on my hair. It does feel a bit dry, would the bleach have damaged my hair? What sort of shampoo and conditioner should I use to restore the condition?

Obviously I'll never be going back there!

they bleached it? that sounds a bit ott! it probably would have faded, colours can look very dark at first
