My new dress, but when will I wear it?

Bought this dress yesterday and it's lovely on, v flattering! Also covers the tops of arms but still feels summery.

But now I'm not sure when I will wear it. I'm at home with toddler 3 days and at work 3 days a week. One day off with all the family together, usually go out walking or do something more active.
We never go out in the evening and I have to wear black to work. It's a bit dressy for toddler groups and playdates.

Maybe it was a mistake.

Also I don't have the right shoes unless converse trainers or black heels would go with it!!

Pub lunch? Any family occasions? It is lovely and won't date very quickly

MilliONaire · 10/05/2011 10:01

I'd say definitely keep it. It is always so nice to have one, lovely, dressy thing in the wardrobe that is not knackered from wearing and washing it etc. You never know over the summer when you will be asked to a party / lunch / bbq etc and it you picked up some nice wedge heeled sandals you would be all set and looking good!

It is hard to find things you like & that are flattering - keep it and wear it!

ggirl · 10/05/2011 10:03

If it's knee length or above on you you could wear that with flat sandals too toddler group /shopping.

Buda · 10/05/2011 10:09

It's lovely. And agree with others that it will be a useful item to have in your wardrobe. Buy yourself a nice pair of sandals - flatties or a nice wedge heel - in a neutral colour or silver and you are set to go!

Am debating it myself now!

Am a 22 and they have it in my size. Love the fact that it has sleeves. Not so sure it will suit my very apple shape though.

tulpe · 10/05/2011 10:10

The dress is lovely. Keep it.

You can wear it alone with wedges or heels for a nice pub lunch.

Or make it more casual by layering with fine-knit long sleeve tee/cami and converse. You could even put some leggings with it. It is actually a lot more versatile than you think :)

FrameyMcFrame · 10/05/2011 13:21

Thanks for the replies everyone, glad you all think I should keep it as I love it!
I suppose I need to engineer some situations to wear it in :)
tulpe, would I wear a longsleeved t under or over it?

Buda, I'm quite apple shaped too and it actually gives the illusion of a waist because of the draping fabric. It's not actually a wrap dress, it's fixed at the waist. Really flattering on me and I'm a lumpy size 14 :)

I now need to get some sandals to go with it...

Framey wear the tee beneath :)

Glad you have decided to keep it. I think its easy to feel overdressed when you have spent 2 years with a little one at home, living in jeans & tees. I remember it well. So enjoy your new dress and get lots of wear from it :)

aftereight · 10/05/2011 16:19

That is a gorgeous dress!
You could wear it with flat sandals in summer with a chunky necklace and a fine knit cardi in one of the lighter colours, which look like pink and mint green on the website.
And into autumn with a black long sleeved t-shirt under it and leggings/opaque tights and flat or heeled boots.
In fact, I quite fancy one myself now Grin

Emo76 · 10/05/2011 17:01

just wear it - to toddler groups - anything, just wear it and enjoy it!

Jenda · 10/05/2011 19:21

ooh thats lovely, i was going to say with cardi and boots in the winter too, very pretty

bigTillyMint · 10/05/2011 19:23

It's lovely and suitable for anything you want to wear it toSmile

moonshine · 10/05/2011 19:26

I have the same dress and am also a lumpy 14! Tis very flattering for all those who are considering it (I am flabby of tummy and quite large of norks ) and think that, once the sun's out and you fling on some sandals, you won't feel overdressed at all.

And it is the holy grail of dresses for me - a sleeved one!

daimbardiva · 11/05/2011 09:35

It's gorgeous! I say just wear it - I'm trying to do the same, bring nice summer dressing into every day wear, as I always tend to keep things like that for "special occasions" and there just aren't enough of them...I'm hoping wearing dresses more often will make every day feel more special..or something!

migola · 11/05/2011 10:42

hmm am looking for a dress for a wedding and am quite tempted... am worried someone else might have the same one though?

and what colour shoes to go with (sorry if this is a bit of a hijack..?)

Buda · 11/05/2011 10:50

What are the colours like in RL? I like it but am worried about the colours being a bit pale.

sprinkles77 · 11/05/2011 14:02

lovely. keep it. wear with birkenstock to toddler group, wedges to go out. I would wear it with leggings and "small' trainers (like converse). Might also work with light weight jeans. Or with long boots (with tights or leggings if you want to hide knees.

hattymattie · 11/05/2011 14:26

I know exactly how you feel - I do this all the time and end up with unworn dresses in my cupboard. It's a lovely dress - like Emo said wear it everywhere and enjoy it. I see loads of people in nice dresses looking totally natural and I always feel totally overdressed because I'm so used to Jeans.

FrameyMcFrame · 11/05/2011 17:06

The colours are lovely Buda, not washed out looking at all. The blue is quite vibrant.
Think it would make a great dress for a wedding actually :)

Ok Framey. You might have just sold me. I think I might order it. Yikes. DH will kill me and I have so many clothes. But it is so hard to find a nice dress with sleeves.

SybilBeddows · 11/05/2011 18:34

it's machine washable and looks comfy enough. wear it to toddler group or shopping or round the house to cheer yourself up on a dull day.

Buda · 11/05/2011 18:37

Have ordered it. They only had sizes 12 and 22 left which I took to be an omen! Would love the 12 but got the 22. Must be meant to be!

FrameyMcFrame · 11/05/2011 20:35

wooo! hope you like it as much as I do :)

OP posts:
Buda · 11/05/2011 20:41

Will let you know when it arrives!

DH will moan. Why are you having stuff sent here to Hungary when we are moving back to UK in 2 months and will have to pay to have it shipped?! He may have a point. But I have a few things coming up and a holiday which the dress will be very useful for.

migola · 12/05/2011 12:37
