nails - what can i do with mine?

I have weak nails, they are just very thin and bendy, I can grow them although they can get a bit peely occasionally. I want pretty nails but don't know what my options are, I don't think mine are going to be able to stand much abuse and I know some false nails mess your real ones up but don't know enough about this. I was thinking of just getting a Shellac-type manicure, a) would that be okay for my nails or does that wreck them too b)will that make my nails less bendy? ie because there is a gel on them (if I have understood this right) as I think this is why varnish won't stick to them, they just bend too easily and after a day it flakes right off. OR can anyone recommend soemthing. I really don't want them very long for practical reasons, and I probably just want a French/American look, just neat and cared for.

My nails are like this too and they break at the edges. I've been using Nailtiques Formula 2 plus every day for just under a month now and my nails are strong for the first time ever. I cannot believe how well it has worked for me. I've spent the last 20 years buying nail hardeners and oils and nothing has ever helped. For me this is the best product I have ever used for anything!

Shellac looks great whilst on but you have to soak it off in acetone which is very drying and won't help with your "bendy nails'.

Try using a conditioning nail/cuticle serum every day/night and just having them short and tidy whilst you strengthen them up. You can always buff them to give them a more groomed look.

Hmm I have done all the paint on stuff too. Really? THis one has worked? Nothing normally does you are right. Will have a google of NF2.

I did speak to someone briefly about the acetone issue but she said (nail tech) that so long as you condition your nails after at home you could redress that damage since it is weeks until you will be doing it again. Not totally sure I believed her though. I have just been taught acetone is a no no.

I peeled off the Shellac myself and my nails were BUGGERED, so definitely don't do that! I'd have thought that the acetone route wouldn't be good either.

I've used the Nailtiques oil, which adds moisture, but doesn't coat the nail with anything to strengthen it, IYSWIM. I find different makes of handcream make a difference, the bog standard Nivea cream in the blue pot gives me strong nails with white whites.

I've just discovered Barbara Daly's No more Yellow clear nail varnish (Tesco) which not only makes your nails look fresh and lovely like they have had a French manicure but has the added bonus of lasting AAAAAAAAAAAGES on your nails and making your nails super strong. I have never had such good nails since discovering this little bargain!

I find that if I get somethng to harden the nail then they just snap, yes I am talking to you Nail Eat. What they need to be is thicker but alas that seems to be impossible.

I treated my self to acrylic nails last year, kept them up for about 4 months, completely buggered my nails up, I couldn't put my hands in hot water as the nails were so thin.
I had bio-gel nails put on to protect them whilst the damage grew out, and have stuck with them ever since, My own nails are really strong and healthy now, would definitely recommend bio-gel nails.

Poodlehorse · 09/05/2011 12:13

have heard good things about bio-soemthing and that will be it costababe. Heard they don't need to file in with that. Does that sound right?

That will be them no filing on your own nails, a base clear layer
Of gel is put on, then you can have a colour or French manicure
Look whatever you like, thats a couple of layers of gel and then
A topcoat of the gel. Nails will be really strong, I do loads of gardening and
Cleaning etc and they don't chip or break at all. Mine last for two to
Three weeks Because of growth.
I was the same as you really bad weak nails, it's so nice to have nice nails!!
