Can anyone help me secretly buy a dress for my dd (11) to go to a wedding in

DD doesn't know she's going (long story), so I have to get her an outfit without telling her. She's almost 12 and very into fashion, likes to be cool and not little girly - wears an age 13.

I've had a quick look and can't see anything that is dressy enough for a wedding, but not a little girls party frock.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

This comes in a 4 petite If it helps when not pregnant I am 5ft4 and wear an 8. I am flat chested (32A/B).

When you say she's into fashion, can you give us a clue? What kind of stuff does she like wearing?

This would be very much liked by the trendy Y8 girls I teach. Not too mature, little bit gothic/edgy and/or cute depending on their particular take!

I'm not sure what your budget is but I think this is lovely! Not too low cut or 'grown up' but not little girly. I think the fuller skirt is maybe more age appropriate than a bodycon one which seem to be everywhere at the moment. I am having a lovely time browsing dresses!

sassy - yep that's dd, more gothic/edgy but in a young way iyswim. Fyrtlemertile - I love that dress too, but think dd would say it was 'old ladyish' and I wasn't planning to spend so much.

If she is into fashion she will be pissed off not to have been allowed to choose. If she can't know about the wedding why not pretend if is for a different event?

bigTillyMint · 06/05/2011 18:47

OMG sassy I had a dress exactly like that many years ago.

I agree with Sarky, DD would be majorly pissed off not to have chosed herself, and perhaps wouldn't even want to wear it. So it might be better to suggest that you would like to get her a smart dress incase of any summer "events"????

Or casually scroll over possibilities asking what she thinks about things - just because you're interested in her style?

My 10 year old sounds like she has similar tastes to your dd - but when choosing a dress for a wedding (she obviously knew she was going), she went for pretty rather than edgy. I think she felt it was more appropriate.
