Pippa's Bridesmaid dress

For that wedding (apologies if there has been a thread, but I was away from Mn for weeks)

Isn't white a bit of a risky/odd choice for a bridesmaid? I thought it would have made a fabulous wedding dress for a beach or relaxed wedding.

I would make a lovely wedding dress but I guess Kate was involved, if not made, the decision as to what her sister would be wearing.

upahill · 06/05/2011 16:17

I thought she looked fantastic and really appropiate for the wedding tbh.

AbsDuCroissant · 06/05/2011 16:21

Risky as in wearing the same colour as the bride

She did look fabulous, and it was incredibly flattering.

She also managed to look dignified wrangling six small children, wearing figure-hugging dress and wearing heels. Respect

I think it looked lovely. It would have been a nice wedding dress, but given the circumstances there was no risk of getting confused about who the bride was.

Gorgeous, would love one just like it.

rm, i think the bride will have been aware before the wedding what colour her bridesmaid was wearing. it's not as if it was a guest turning up in a bridal gown like outfit. kate will have had massive say in what pippa wore.

Northernlurker · 06/05/2011 16:29

Wasn't white - it was ivory Grin. All the wedding party wore that and they all looked lovely. Much better imo than coloured dresses.

I was under the impression that traditionally bridesmaids are meant to be dressed in white and, in fact, precede the bride up the aisle in order to ward off malicious sprits so they won't know which one to hex. It was a lovely dress, but entirely convinced about the little sleeves - would have preferred sleevless with that design, although I think shoulders had to be covered, so that would explain the choice.

Bridesmaids are meant to look plainer than the bride. As the bride looked so good, she could afford for her sister to still look as good as she did.

Bet Harry got some ideas ;o)

No problem wearing white imo as it is traditional. Wearing a colour would have run the risk of clashing with the groom's, best man's and pageboys' uniforms as well as standing out from the bride and the little bridesmaids, and realistically, a colour would have been difficult to choose, given that colours also had to be chosen by the Queen and Mrs M. It was also a very plain, demure (little cap sleeves and cowl front) and ungarnished dress, whose neckline echoed that of the bride's.
