fake tan - spray tan - many questions

mousymouse · 05/05/2011 09:12

going to a wedding at the end of this month.
have a lovely dress but it leaves my arms free and the tanline from wearing t-shirts very visible.

  • can I get a spray tan that is not orange?
  • doesn't smell vile?
  • how long before should I have it done?
  • what do I need to do before?
  • would it be silly just to have legs and arms/shoulders done?

yes, when you get it done it looks really orange because of the marking stuff but when you wash it off it is much better (hark at me i have only done it twice!)

Poodlehorse · 05/05/2011 15:25

just what I needed to know as I am going to a wedding beg of June and I am not happy at showing my pale blue upper arms at this point, can't do a lot about the flab in that time (unless anyone knows different) but was thinking about having a spray tan (never had it done but useless at doing them myself). Thank you MM and DB

fake bake is a good one.

mousymouse · 05/05/2011 19:56

can I get fake bake at a beautician? I am not going to start experimenting on my own Wink

OP posts:
kitkatya · 05/05/2011 20:08

No I wouldnt start experimenting as you will go patchy. Best to use virgin skin!! yes, you can get it done in a salon.

mousymouse · 06/05/2011 11:29

have now booked an appointment at a salon.
sooo excited.
I just hope that I will look nice and tanned and not too orange or everyone at the wedding will laugh at me .

oh, and the lady said to exfoliate.
how exactly do I do that?
oliveoil and salt like I would do for my face all over?

kitkatya · 06/05/2011 11:38

That sounds abit harsh!! is that what you use? I would just go to boots and get a cheap exfoliator from Simple or something. Make sure you shave yourself a day before. Pay attention to exfoliating around your elbows ankles and knees.

Good luck.

Are you tempted to do a dummy run now? you would have time for it to wear off and do again.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2011 16:49

I had a fake bake spray on the thurs and got married on the saturday, I exfoliated with salt and glycerine and then put body lotion on the morning and had it done late at night so I had less time to muck it up with splashes of water etc.

One wedding I went to had a bride with patchy fading of the tan inbetween her boobs.

mousymouse · 06/05/2011 16:59

No danger there, it is a japanese style dress, very high on the front but without arms iykwim.

Thanks for all the great advice.

Exfoliate and moisturise well in the run up to the fake tan! Make sure you moisturise especially rough areas of including elbows, knees and ankles (this is where I went wrong once, my feet were quite dry and the fake tan took really well - looked a bit silly as tan had faded on legs but had two dark brown feet!)

I wore an old pair of knickers (or you could wear a bikini), something that you are not bothered about the fake tan getting on. I was also told to not wear deodorant or make up on face and wear flipflops/sandals. Also, wear your hair up as well.

I was very pleased with the Fake Bake spray tan, looked lovely and natural (not at all orange) and lasted ages. HTH

lipglossandlashes · 06/05/2011 21:07

Exfoliate with a non oily exfoliater on the day, don't use any moisturiser, oils, deoderant, perfume, or make up on the day (these create a barrier on the skin) wax or shave the day before, your therapist will guide you and will give you sticky feet these protect the soles of your feet and she will moisturise any dry areas (elbows, knees, heels and palms) try and book your tan in the evening so you can go home and develop, wear loose dark clothing after, water will be the enemy now so be aware! No bathing babies or cleaning house, drink through a straw! ENJOY! Smile

Are you very fair skinned? IME St Tropez can be a bit dark/orange if you're quite pale. Tried a St Tropez tan for my hen weekend (as a practice for actual wedding) and it wasn't quite right. Then went on to have a gorgeous spray tan for my actual wedding (can't remember what it was called tho'). That said, it was a few years ago and I'm sure things have moved on a bit ... {feeling old emoticon}.

One tip - don't go swimming between having the tan done and the wedding as the chlorine can bleach it to a paler shade.

mousymouse · 07/05/2011 16:29

I am fair but not very white. More like magnolia pale. Dark hair. A few freckles.

Oh, and the lady at the salon said I should go for a dark, as I am tall and medium wouln't couver it.

mousymouse · 26/05/2011 13:27

just back from the spray tan session. my face, butt and legs look really nice, but for some reason my arms are quite pale. might need to go in tomorrow to have that fixed.
hate this sticky smelly feel atm.
went for medium which is defo dark enough for me.

I would have it the Friday evening for a Sunday wedding any earlier and it will be starting to fade a bit.
