"Would you like your top lip doing too?"

My life is over

be glad its the lady who does the threading (likes to make some extra cash). A few of my pupils told me I should be Mr Vino not Mrs.

Asked why that was and they say you have a moustache!

I had it threaded that afternoon!!

BendyBob · 04/05/2011 20:32

LolGrin Did you have it done?

I had my eyebrows threaded for the first time recently and was mightily impressed having only ever had them waxed before. It's much better! (I noticed they were offering top lips and sides of faces too.)

pink4ever · 04/05/2011 20:36

I saw a woman getting her chin done-in the middle of our shopping centre!!(why oh why would you do that?). Was tempted to get my eyebrows threaded til I saw someone who had just had hers done and was scarlet(with tears in her eyes!). Let my sister tweeze my eyebrow(yes singlular) once and noone has been near them since!.

LadyBlaBlah · 04/05/2011 20:38

I HAD to have it done. I am blonde too, so was all a bit of a shock. It was a blonde moustache but I do get her point that it was a bit, erm, long

Getting nightmares about regrowth - what happens?

Lets hope they don't thread bikini lines too! Esp in a shopping centre Grin

upahill · 04/05/2011 20:40

I had my chin and upper lip done this morning. Normally I get my eyebrows done but I've smashed my upper face in the other week and it's still stiched up!!

I love threading. It costs next to nothing (£7.00 for chin, lips and eyebrows including the bit between your eyes at the top of your nose) and lasts about a month

PinkOlives · 04/05/2011 20:41

its worth it if you have hair on your top lip, very clean, a lot of women do have a moustache and when you have dark hairs, its got to go! looks great when you put listick on as well
nothing wrong with it IMO

agree Bendy always thread i never wax

tattycoram · 04/05/2011 21:41

Ha, exactly the same thing happend to me but with my chin. It made quite a difference though.

fadingfast · 04/05/2011 22:01

I had a very similar experience in the middle of a busy department store. Plonked myself in the oh-so-very-public chair just to have my eyebrows done and the woman said "would you like me to do your upper lip too?" and as I hesitated wondering if I could bear the humiliation she said (very pointedly) "I think you should". And so I did.

Found it more painful than eyebrows, but pleased with the results. Just not sure I can face the humiliation again Blush

LaToada · 04/05/2011 22:08

Same happened to me. I DO NOT have a mustache and when I said as much she said 'it won't hurt'. Hurraph I HAVE NOT got a mustache

blueemerald · 04/05/2011 22:51

I had my eye brows threaded for the first time a few days ago and she pulled out about 5 hairs from each brow (I have very fine, very blonde hair and pale skin, I was going more to see what threading was like) but then kept trying to persuade me to do my upper lip too! It was when I pointed out that she had only taken out about 10 hairs altogether that she let it go! She even tried to persuade me that it would suit my (very sensitive) skin....

I think some just want to make more money.

madhousewife · 04/05/2011 23:10

Why do they have these places in the open? Would it be that difficult to put up a partition for a little bit of privacy?
I had it done once in Bluewater when some guy came up and started talking to one of the other ladies about how he saw this done in Vietnam and that it was so cool that they were doing it here. I wanted to crawl under the chair and die! Never again!

hatcam · 05/05/2011 00:29

Ladyblablah that is nothing last month my threading lady suggested I might go for the full face option......

Before you imagine I sm the beast of Berkshire I really am not, I have my eyebrows threaded because of the lovely shape and have upper lip just because make up sits better and I am paranoid about getting whiskery.

But I am converted! Sooooooo painful, but I swear it's taken a good 5 years off me. My skin looks soft and smooth and lovely, am really pleased. Which is good given the humiliation and pain.

upahill · 05/05/2011 06:55

I cannnot for the life of me understand people going and having the threading done on the main thoroughfare of Debenhams and the like!

1 It is so public
2 It costs nearly 2 1/2 times as much as going to a shop.

I go to an Asian beauty salon and pay £7.50 for lip, chin andeyebrows and any strays.

It is quick and if you get the right person almost pain free.
The trick is to hold your skin above your eyes tight as she threads there or poke your tounge where she is threading on your lip area.

TheWaterHorse · 05/05/2011 14:46

I had this done for the first time recently and it looked good and didn't hurt anything like as much I thought it would. But - it made me sneeze. And it took her ages as I kept having to get her to stop so I could sneeze yet again. Anyone else had this or am I the only freak?

BendyBob · 05/05/2011 15:28

I had it done in a shopping centre Blush I must admit it wouldn't have been my venue of choice by a long shot, but it was only £5 which was an amazing price (I pay about £10 to have them waxed). I've wanted to give it a go for ages but this is the only place I've seen doing threading where I live, I've tried frequently before to find threading but there's nowhere local to meSad.

I wanted to ask the lady who did it for me if she was from a salon or where I could go to see her regularly, but she was very quiet and shy and I don't think she spoke too much English so I didn't want to hassle her. She was excellent though and had a very long queue of women waiting to be done so I think everyone jumped at the chance like I did. I'd have paid more tbh.

AbsDuCroissant · 05/05/2011 15:34

I exclusively get it done in the middle of shopping centres

Because I'm too lazy to find somewhere else.

tattycoram · 05/05/2011 17:01

I did once get it done at a cheapy place near me but it was really wierd, she gave me long narrow middle eastern shaped eyebrows that just looked wrong with curly hair, so I haven't dared try there again.

dedee · 05/05/2011 17:53

Hi

Loads of people have their upper lip facial hair removed especially if it is dark so I dont see it as a problem if they ask.

I have had mine threaded in Debenhams - this costs £8.00 + the upper lip is included

Tigerbomb · 05/05/2011 17:57

I have my eyebrows threaded every two weeks, otherwise I look like a Neanderthal .

It costs £3 and is in a little stall with screens around you

Bargain

Honeymum · 05/05/2011 17:59

I love it.

The regrowth for upperlip is fine - literally. You look like you have stubble rash for about 30 mins too though Grin. Top lip is a mite painful, mind.

Al0uiseG · 05/05/2011 18:06

I love it, sitting in public having facial hair ripped out by the root. I like the swelling I get on my lip and around my eyes, it negates the need for Botox or fillers for at least 24 hours.

upahill · 05/05/2011 18:09

Do the threading in Debs work independently because the one near me is nearer £21 for eyebrow, lip and chin. I was stunned when I saw the price.
Same with a couple of place I've seen when I've been to the city.

The lady that does mine doesn't speak much English. However she does a great job on my eyebrows. They have never been done thinly.

I was just shocked when I walked through the doors of Debs and a neighbout that I don't know that well was lying there having her whiskers pulled out!
