4 breasts and how to avoid them??

I threatened to start this thread before then thought I had it solved by buying new bras but Nooooooo still finding that an hour into the bra I have developed the dreaded 4 boobs.

IT LOOKS HORRENDOUS.

Is it the style? Is it the fit?

I was measured as 38F and she recommended some enormous plunge scaffolding affairs. I now have a cleavage you could park your bike in and 4 fecking breasts!!!!!

Advice appreciated Smile

the one I had, lifted my teeshirt, realised I wasn't wearing a bra and said "well, I'll do it over your teeshirt, it's only thin fabric"

the lady in John Lewis stood there and prodded and poked, and moved and jiggled, and checked elastic etc without even breaking her stride.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 03/05/2011 16:48

Over your T shirt. Accuracy be damned!!

M&S are utterly shit. Get thee to bravissimo or john lewis. And yes, the rough guide measured above - measure your back and then each inch your full bust is bigger - 1 cup - should give you a rough idea of just how far out they are! Definitely get properly fitted though as even one cup off, or a different cut of bra, makes a huge difference.

If you're near Manchester, I found Selfriges to be good too (the London store at any rate).

When you're happy with the sizing, get a couple of beige/pink ones (hate to say it but the Triumph Doreen is excellent for big boobies), a sports bra, a moulded bra, one strapless and one saucy one for rainy evenings.

Throw out all your old ones. Yes, even that one.

I sorted out my aunt's bra wardrobe a while ago, just before her wedding. People asked her if she'd changed her hair or altered her makeup, they could see that she'd done something but couldn't work out what.

I love bras, I'm still bf at the moment so I have only a limited choice but I do love vicarious bra shopping too.

Thanks so much everyone.

I really appreciate the advice.
I thought I was doomed to be the fabulous lesser spotted 4 breasted woman and have twitchers camped out across the road waiting to record my rare appearances.

Would any of you say that underwire is better than not??

OP posts:
colditz · 03/05/2011 16:59

You need to go up-a-cup

colditz · 03/05/2011 17:03

With large breast, underwiring is a MUST

MadreInglese · 03/05/2011 17:15

here's my bra waffling from a previous thread:

"if you're sizing yourself you need to make sure that the bra is flush to your chest/ribs/back the whole way round with no gaps but also not too tight

the straps should be at a length so that when you look side-on in the mirror the back and front of the bra around you is level IYSWIM (this may feel weird at first like the back is too low) but not too loose that they flop off your shoulders

then you just need to find a comfy cup fit so you're not bulging out with fourboobs, nor rattling around a too-big cup - if underwired the wire should run exactly around and under your whole boob IYSWIM

and always put your top back on over a tried-on bra to check the silhouette

if you measure with a tape measure 34D then try a variety of sizes around that one, 34C,D,E, 36C,D,E, etc"

piratecat · 03/05/2011 17:18

my fave bra is Helena by fantasie. you are prob a 36 around your chest (under your boobs).

ggirl · 03/05/2011 17:37

Helena is my fave too

Knofje · 03/05/2011 17:38

I totally agree with MadreInglese, but I'd recommend trying a wider range of sizes. So, if measuring a 34D first try differing back measurements in each style of bra - 32E, 34D and 36C (same wire is used in all 3) then differing cup sizes if the cup isn't quite right once the band is fitted. The band should be tight not uncomfortable but definitely tight, otherwise your shoulders take the strain. Always buy a bra that fits on it's loosest setting to allow you to take it in as it stretches with wear.

Just to give an idea, I measure a 34B but I need to wear a 30E in most bras even though a 30D has the same wire as a 34B.

DottyDot · 03/05/2011 17:40

another vote for Bravissimo in Manchester - they sorted out my enormous chestage marvellously.

mrsgordonfreeman · 03/05/2011 21:11

I think underwires are a matter of choice.

No underwire will restrict you to industrial armour plated bras, like the Triumph Doreen. It is an excellent bra but not necessarily designed for the boudoir. Non underwired cheap bras, well, you are better off not bothering and I mean that sincerely. Don't get me started on cheap nursing bras, ffs, they're more of an insult than an undergarment.

A well fitting underwired bra will probably have a more sexy design, but check that it's a shape that fits you and won't poke you in the boob or armpit.

PS I persuaded my late mother to try a Doreen, she said she was sceptical until she drove over a speed bump too quickly: and she didn't move. Behold, a convert.
