See-through skirt...help!

Bought this maternity skirt and love it. Can't wait to start wearing it with denim jacket and my new sandals ...... only problem is it's completely see-through. Why oh why do they make things like this and not put a lining in it? Tried Dunnes for a slip to go underneath, but they had none in my local store. Looked online in M&S, they don't have anything long enough, only a long thing from the soulders like my granny wears. A knee-length slip just won't do, I've already tried the one I have already at home, but you can see that it's there and stops at the knee and looks silly, even DH agrees. I'd be hopeless at lining it myself. Anyone got any ideas what I can do?!? Reluctant to take it to dressmaker to line for me as they'd charge a fortune and I'm only gonna get one season out of it, being maternity...... Help please!
TIA

thanks for reply, BMF....problem is...I have fat, wobbly tree-stump legs and SPD and have to wear a black pregnancy support belt which can also be seen through the skirt so really need to do smthg about it....

white leggings?

tulpe · 03/05/2011 13:48

I would be tempted to try lining it myself as its crinkle cotton so doesn't have to be perfect beneath.

All you need to do is a loose running stitch through the top of some white cotton fabric then gently pull to create gentle gathers, making sure it will fit the circumference of the skirt. I would sew it to the top of the tier which starts under the bump, iyswim.

tulpe I'm beginning to think that'll be the only way to go. I have an old cotton bed sheet I no longer use because it has a hole in it.....would that do, to save me having to go out and buy something else? (sorry, I'm clueless!)

I'd try leggings like TheLemur suggested

iWILLdothis · 03/05/2011 15:16

would leggings not still show the shape of my legs though?

flesh coloured slip. will hide the legs and maternity belt. If it's a bit short will notice less than a white one.

I've been looking for something that's not shiny, american tan, won't give me electric shocks etc.
Eventually found a stretchy jersey cotton spagetti strap vest dress from H&M for £6.99 in a nude colour. Works well and sizes are unusually on the large side.

cruelladepoppins · 03/05/2011 17:51

this is quite long

You could buy big to go over the bump, or wear it under the bump.

THank you everyone for your suggestions. I'm going shopping at the end of the week in another bigger town which has a H&M so i'll look there. Don't think the spagetti strap vest dress one will work with bump though.....moragbellingham, do you remember if they have skirt slips as well? Otherwise will order cruella's suggestion.
