Hi - has anyone used this for toning and if so did you feel it worked?
im looking for an alternative to cardio, at desired weight but in desperate need for toning, mainly thighs and upper arms.
have read some mixed reviews so i wanted to see if anyones gone through with it quite frequently
thanks

hi. I got this a few months ago and did it for a month and saw results in arms and abs. didn't see much improvement in lower body tbh, but would recommend for upper body. tones things up quite quickly, but needs to be done regularly. I've had Easter holiday lapse and really must restart.

I liked the fact the workout has short sections so quite easy to manage 5-10 mins a day. the standing abs is hysterical though, you will feel a wally doing the moves! she's not the best at explaining what she is doing and pouts all the way through, but I don't mind the lack of instuction (as you get hang of it quickly)

HTH

thanks moomin, thats what i read, that she lacks instruction, but i want to try something different and this might be it
i was going to ask if shes annoying to watch which does put you off a dvd but i can deal with the pouting for toned arms!
would like to see a difference on thighs too though which is the toughest thing for me
glad to hear that you got good results

good luck. think it's worth it for the arm workout on it's own. the one without weights is a killer (imagine having to stand with arms outstretched for 10+ mins-a form of torture surely?)

PinkOlives · 03/05/2011 10:41

"tortue" Shock now im scared and ive already ordered it Grin
strangely im looking forward to it!

Oooh, this sounds good - had been thinking I was getting a bit un-toned upper arms wise..

PinkOlives · 03/05/2011 15:10

i was sold on the "matwork" aspect. seems we wont need any equipment !
arms like madonna/gwyneth et al
...just need to stick to it when it arrives

I highly rate Tracy Anderson's mat workout.

My arms and abs toned up very quickly and my arms looked smaller. I regulary do the weightless arms, weighted arms, standing abs and mat abs sections from this dvd. I enjoy doing them as well as liking the results. Standing abs takes a bit of getting used to but I love it now and feel like i'm dancing rather than exercising (on the spot).

In general, I hate working out my legs and find the legs sections in the Mat dvd take ages to do, in fact they're only 10mins each. I tend to do the legs section from her Post Pregnancy dvd as its only about 10mins and seems to really lift my bum.

I also have Perfect Design sequences 1, 2 and 3 but they're very challenging for me! I've ordered one of her Metamorphis workouts too.

I prefer TA Mat much more than the Shred.

I don't do any of her cardo w/outs as i do spin classes at the gym.

PinkOlives · 04/05/2011 16:10

ive done the shred but theres not much point for me as i have an injured knee, so i dont like to do intense bouncing.

i really liked what i saw about matwork on the vidoe on amazon
so whats the post-pregnancy dvd like is it worth getting (even though im not preg) i do need to work on my thighs, arms and prob should look to work out bum before it chooses to drop!

jbg, how often do you do it? i do like a combination on workouts to do so would be good to have a couple of dvds, its the boredom that makes me quit! thanks for the info

jbg - sounds like we do the same. I struggled with the leg workouts as they felt long and made my lower back ache. it does help with arms and easy to fit at least one in a day to get those "teeny tiny arms" she bangs on about!

I do kickboxing 2/3 times a week for cardio and think this DvD works well with that and stops me looking too bulky.

jbg · 04/05/2011 17:15

After doing Mat for 3 weeks, I could see more definition in my stomach. IMO it worth getting for the weightless arms and standing arms alone! You get really fast results, especially in your arms.

PinkOlives: I don't have kids but have always had had a protruding stomach. The Post Pregnancy dvd focuses mainly on Abs; 35-40 mins and they're HARD. The 35 mins are broken into 4 sections so you can pick and choose which you do or do them all. The arms and legs section are 10 mins each. I don't bother with the arms as its very slow and too easy. I've never been able to complete all the ab sections in one go. Also, with the PP she works out to classical music which i found boring.

Moo: I had lower back pain too but found if i leaned into the move, it stopped. I do about 3-4 spin classes a week - I think i'm a little addicted to it. I also go to the gym for social aspect too. I live in Madrid and my social circle is small (more of a social square!). In general, i enjoy exercising it makes me feel better. I sometimes do a boxing class too.

I don't diet at all. As well as mainly eating well, every week I consume, by myself, a box of Lidl Jaffa cakes (twice as many as normal jaffa cakes) and a block of chocolate plus a big bag of crisps. When i do my weekly shop I try to avoid including these 3 items but I ALWAYS go back for them!!

PinkOlives · 04/05/2011 17:54

haha jbg i think i do the same a week, big bag of crisps and currently eating away at creme eggs, dont do the jaffas though! otherwise im very healthy

i have back hip and knee problems but i dont want this to stop me toning!
good tip then to lean more into the move, i should receive mine tomo.

dreaming of "teany tiny arms"! Smile
