Walking in wedges

I don't seem to be able to do it Hmm

I am used to wearing heels so the height itself is not an issue.

DH bought me some lovely navy leather wedges a couple of years ago. Very similar to these They are approx 5cm heel with a 1 cm platform sole. I dug them out of the wardrobe this morning, determined to get the knack of walking in them sorted. I end up walking like a man in drag. My feet and legs seem very disconnected!

Is there knack to it?

hmm, it just sort of happens for me! Those arent even that high are they? Put your heel down and follow with rest of foot? SOunds daft typing that

tulpe · 02/05/2011 17:34

Ha! I know, Cyb. It confuses the hell out of me that for some reason I cannot even begin to walk properly in them. I evidently have some weird mental block Hmm

Gutted because I love them and they are tres comfy - leather all buttery and soft yet totally wasted on me :(

Right, am off for more poncing around the house in ungainly manner to get to grips with said wedges. I shall not be defeated!

Does the sole bend? I've got some fab wedges that I can wear all day and walk normally, IYSWIM, but I bought some new ones the other day that have a totally rigid sole, and it's like walking in skis. They've had to go back.

tulpe · 02/05/2011 17:46

Actually the sole is quite rigid. Obviously I cannot take them back now because they are 2 years old but I wonder if gently bending the sole by hand would make a difference? They do kind of feel stiff underfoot as I walk so you are probably right there, Fanjo .

Are you sure you look weird or maybe they just feel weird but you could be walking fine IYSWIM

Ignore the name I am incognito

cocolepew · 02/05/2011 17:48

I know what you mean, I have a pair higher than that, out with DH the other day he asked why I was goose stepping.

c0rn51lk · 02/05/2011 17:52

I always seem to topple over to the side

cyb · 02/05/2011 17:55

Do they stay on your feet okay? Its easy to walk like you have 2 wooden legs if you feel your shoes wont stay put

tulpe · 02/05/2011 17:58

LOL at goose stepping!

doggy I understand what you mean. I have only worn wedges a handful of times and the other pair I own are LK Bennett ones which have a sole more like these . They feel more elegant and less clompy than the rope soled ones and I find them easier to walk in.

Right, so will bend soles and then get DH to film me walking Blush to see if it is all in my head!

Cyb - if all else fails, will try heel grips. They do feel very comfy but perhaps that is an issue.

I think rope soled ones can be heavy.

I have some Boden wedges from a couple of years ago that I struggle in and they look like those in your link with the espadrille wedge and a really rigid sole, look lovely but I feel like I walk like a penguin in them. My other wedges have a bit more give and are absolutely fine. I think the rigid sole is the problem too. I hardly ever wear mine and they were ££, I only shove them in if hardly any walking involved eg car to restaurant and back.
