removing lash adhesive

wore my new MAC falsies Saturday night with great success, but had to throw them away! I think I had used too much glue which had congealed between the base of the fake lashes (near the strip) and had stuck them all together! I tried picking all the bits out, then in desperation washed them in soapy water (which made it worse)!

so, (apart from using less glue obviously) what is the best way of removing excess dried glue, to ensure I can reuse them a few times? eye make up remover/surgical spirit?

am mightily pissed off at having to chuck the MAC ones as they were £££! will be sticking to cheapo ones until I get good at this. thanks.

Baby Oil to remover the glue, without a doubt, then something more astringent based to remove any residual grease, if that makes sense.

KingCnut · 02/05/2011 16:58

Actually, try leaving them to soak in warm soapy water for a few hours first (most gentle method) then if the glue's still there do the above ^ Grin I've not used the MAC ones but this often does the trick on other ones I've tried.

MooMinCow · 02/05/2011 18:45

thanks kingcnut. do you just wipe over with baby oil or kinda rub with fingers?

I went for MAC ones as they teach then apply them for you if you buy them, and I was fed up with not being able to apply them myself! she was excellent!

out of interest which brand do you use, and typically how many times do you re-use a pair?

Rosewater works really well.

Havingkittens · 02/05/2011 21:58

Only apply the glue thinly along the actual band of the lash, not on the base of the lashes themselves. Let the glue get a little tacky so the lashes don't slide around and then apply them. When you remove them there should only be a little glue stuck along the band which you can remove gently with your index finger and thumb nail.

If you get enough glue on your lashes for the roots of them to be all gummed up they will also look quite skanky when you're wearing them Wink - no offense meant!

MooMinCow · 02/05/2011 22:31

havingkittens - no offence taken! am dark skinned, have black lashes and had dark grey smokey eyeshadow on then used black eyeliner to cover join so couldn't see any skanky-ness!

That Duo glue is the dogs bollocks though. think that's where I've been going wrong all these years! think that's why I used too much (thought it was like those freebie adhesives that come with falsies). think a little Duo goes a ling way!

there is a lot of thinking in that last post! damn Iphone, can't see what I've written previously!

Try holding your tube of Duo with the tip pointing upright and very gently squeeze until a tiny blob appears (about 3mm), if too much comes out slightly release the pressure on the tube, then lightly swipe the strip along the glue blob. This should avoid any glue disasters!

ps. I just edited my post as I realised I'd used the word gently 3 times in 3 lines! Bit like your "thinking".

pps. Do you know you can get black Duo as well as clear? Quite good if you are dark skinned and find the clear one ashy.

MooMinCow · 03/05/2011 09:23

thanks HK. am I right in thinking you are a makeup artist/work for MAC?

might try the dark Duo then. do they come in smaller tubes?

off to discount toilettries shop to stock up on cheap falsies to practice with.

moojust very gentley rub it over them.

I tend to use trusted Eyelure most of the time now, as I can't justify the price of the more expensive ones anymore, and I use the most natural ones anyway so it makes little difference. I would spend more if I wanted a more dramatic look, as big cheap ones look, well, cheap Grin I have been using falsies for a long time though, so don't stuggle with the glue/application.

I can usually get a couple of wears out of them, but that depends on how drunk I get on the night in question Wink Blush

Yes, moo, I am a make up artist. I have worked for MAC in the past, which is how I am so familiar with a lot of their products but that was some years ago.

I think the dark Duo comes in the same size tubes. The only one I've seen in smaller tubes is the waterproof one but I stopped using that after having one actress who's eyes wouldn't stop streaming when I used it which seemed ironic. I was hoping for the waterproof element to be a precaution rather than a necessity! Wink

HK you do realise that I will be pestering you with my makeup related queries now haha?

Got some of those Girls Aloud lashes (Sarah Harding style) and some Eylure 120's as they were going cheap in boots. Am out Fri and Sat so will roadtest them!
