Hi, I'm going to a wedding in June and I an defiantly not a hat person.
What's the deal with fascinators? Yes or no?
Anyone seen some nice ones to go with a chocolate strapless dress.
I have just below shoulder length hair

No. Sorry, but I just cannot see the point.

TethersEnd · 01/05/2011 15:00

No. But I am very much a hat person.

polyhymnia · 01/05/2011 15:20

No - really think they look daft (but obviously I'm in a minority). Hate hats too. In that respect if no other agree with Sam Cam.

TethersEnd · 01/05/2011 15:21

SamCam looked woefully underdressed IMO... that's another thread though Grin

polyhymnia · 01/05/2011 15:30

Yes, know what you mean. But I too would strugggle to find either a hat or a fascinator i wanted to wear to a wedding. Having a big head doesn't help!

GeneHuntsMistress · 01/05/2011 15:42

Noooooo I hate the bloody things, also those ridiculous tiny hats perched on the forehead that everyone was wearing yesterday, what the fuckity fuck?!

I love a big hat. But if you don't, go to the hairdressers and get a lovely updo. Yu could always add in a sparkly clip or something. As long as it has no feathers or other crap attached of course! But you will look polished and that you have made an effort if you have a nice updo.

AnyoneForPimms · 01/05/2011 18:06

That looks like a no no then Grin

I like a rose/peony style flower in the hair :) Fascinators mostly look cheap IMO.

hattymattie · 01/05/2011 18:42

I'm sure we'll look back on those forehead things in 10 years time and think how stupid they looked. Go for a classy hat anytime.

noddyholder · 01/05/2011 18:42

No

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 01/05/2011 22:24

I think they are a tad dated now, an Alice band like this www.marksandspencer.com/Bead-Stone-Cluster-Headband-Silk/dp/B004IMMYZK?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_16&nodeId=635132031&sr=1-16&qid=1304285002 would be more on trend.

QueenLaQueefer · 01/05/2011 23:33

I'm going to say yes!

You don't want to look like one of those chavyorange ladies at Ascot, but likewise, as Tethers rightly says, SamCam looked like she was dressed for a BBQ at the Royal Wedding. Beautiful outfit, but not a wedding outfit. A red/orange peony would have looked fab.
She had clearly been on MN too much.

I agree a flowery thing will be better than a bird-crashed-into-your-head affair.

TeoTorriatte · 02/05/2011 17:09

I'm not keen on them but love hats.

Imagine a scene where lots of guests have fascinators bobbing about on top of their heads and they all get tangled up together Grin

Poodlehorse · 02/05/2011 21:04

If I had to wear something on my head I would go hat and never a fascinator but would rather go a la SamCam although agree that at THAT wedding she looked odd. didn't like the jewel thing she wore either though, nor the necklace. I think I am a bit minimalist in my accessories
