Hello - I tried on a really lovely jacket yesterday and it fitted perfectly - almost. I am 5ft but with big boobs, so buying jackets is always a bit of a nightmare - it fits perfectly across my shoulders and arms but then is a bit of a tight squeeze to do it up.

so here is my thing - would you buy it? it was my TOTM when I tried it on, so not the best time in the breast department anyway, and I suppose I could hide the gape with a scarf etc.....just that it's not cheap and they didn't have the next size - and anyway, what I would gain in it fastening, I'd lose in the good fit everywhere else.....aaagghhh!

what would you do?

I think I would only do this if I could get it altered, and if it is too small you can't do that....is there nowhere else with the bigger size you could try and see if you could get it altered?

My wardrobe is full of compromises like this.

They are usually a mistake.

bellavita · 01/05/2011 07:46

No!

cyanarasamba · 01/05/2011 07:49

Where was it from? Would you be able to order the next size/ check online?

nellieloula · 01/05/2011 07:52

it was from comptoir des cotonniers. I should see if they have the bigger size in London maybe.... thanks for the feedback though! I know you are all right! (damn!)

I did this once (with a suit) and committed myself to wearing the jacket undone. It was fine, but I didn't wear it often as I just felt conscious of my frontage. I think of it now as a wardrobe mistake & I'm trying to train myself out of buying things unless they are exactly right..... If you really love it you could ask them to order in the next size & try that, or try another one in the same size to see if the cut is roomier ( which can often happen, even in the most expensive stuff, it seems)

FritziGreenEyes · 01/05/2011 10:20

Don't buy it!

animula · 01/05/2011 10:32

Don't buy it.

A size up won't fit around the shoulders, and will make you look hefty.

Ideally, a jacket should be roomy enough to fit a thin cardi underneath (imo) but still fit beautifully across the shoulders. Otherwise it's just an accessory, not a "working" jacket.

There is a jacket in Whistles or Jigsaw (sorry, they have blurred into one!) that is narrow across the shoulders and flaring wider as it falls. It's a lovely shape, and I suspect you might get more joy - and use - out of that.

Ignore those bad, bad designers who size up their patterns by assuming women just swell out all over. Most of us don't - we have larger norkage, but keep quite narrow across the back.

animula · 01/05/2011 10:34

Have seen it was C de C. Definitely try for a size up.

theagedparent · 01/05/2011 10:36

I have a beautiful dress in my wardrobe which doesn't fit. I saw it and had to have it but never going to wear it :(

LaurieFairyCake · 01/05/2011 10:36

I would buy it but that's because I don't have one jacket or coat that has ever done up (36j)

polyhymnia · 01/05/2011 11:03

Definitely wouldn't get it unless I was 100% sure it could be altered successfully. Hate having a jacket I can't do up if I want to.

Worth trying a size up (I love C des C).

bishboschone · 01/05/2011 11:10

can you move the buttons over a bit ?

mumtoted · 01/05/2011 13:00

Same answer as LaurieFairyCake. Never done a jacket up yet!

EasterEggHuntIsOver · 01/05/2011 13:19

I would say 'don't do it' but I've done this myself so many times Blush

My wardrobe is full of 'museum pieces' :o

nellieloula · 01/05/2011 14:23

thanks everyone - totally in two minds! I think I'll go back tmrw and see if they can get another size in or at least take of the rose tinted glasses before I try it on!!

I wouldn't do this any more. I used to, and ended up with several items that I never really got around to adjusting. However, whenever I bought something that was too big, I kept it anyway - and now I fit it [cblush] so all is not lost.

I never buy anything too small now - it's really never going to happen.

DonaAna · 01/05/2011 15:08

No. Stuff like that just clutters up your closet and I'm strongly against wearing clothes that don't fit. However. I'm still thinking of a Dolce & Gabbana jacket one size too small that I saw in an outlet a few years ago.

cabbageroses · 01/05/2011 15:10

IMO you won't feel good in it- you will always know it doesn't quite fit.

If it is very cheap and a kind of throw on summer jacket that you would wear instead of a cardi, then maybe- but CdC are £££s.

sprinkles77 · 01/05/2011 15:45

Don't do it! You won't wear it. look at bravissimo for clothes made to fit bigger boobs. I'm a 30E and feel your pain!!!!!!
