Whats the general feeling on fringes?

mosschops30 · 30/04/2011 20:32

i am growing my hsir and its about chin length now. It always looks awful if i pull it back.

Im thinking of getting a fringe, it would save me a fortune in botox, but i always think its a bit ageing.

Whats the thought on fringes?

Marking place - forehead beginning to crinkle, but not sure if I want a fringe. I'm afraid of the maintenance (and of looking as if I'm aping schoolgirl styles).

bristolcities · 30/04/2011 20:35

What shape face have you got?

Hassled · 30/04/2011 20:37

I had one cut in recently and I think I look loads better for it - I tend to wear my hair up/back (just because that's the only way to keep it under control) and it was all a bit severe and ageing without a fringe.

Timbachick · 30/04/2011 20:39

Do you have thick hair?

Only asking as I have fine hair and any time I have had a fringe it has looked rank - you have to take it from sooooooo far back to give it any substance at all it's horrible, makes it look like you fringe starts from the middle of your head ... and it does [cshock]

PinkOlives · 30/04/2011 20:40

just got one too, i love fringes and i think they make you look younger, depends your hair face shape etc. but i like that i now look like a girl Grin
they grow quickly and you just need a quick blow dry with a barrel brush - easy peasy

mosschops30 · 30/04/2011 20:41

I have an oval shsped face, im slim and my hair is thin, straight and blonde.
I dont often wear it up, but need to for work, and think i might do it more if i had a fringe
Trouble is whenever ive had one before ive liked it to begin with, then grown it out

Id like a heavy fringe not one that lookd thin and wispy, can you cut a thick heavy fringe?

i have very fine hair timba and its not too far back at all and looks very full , i suppose its different for everyone speak to the hair dresser

mosschops30 · 30/04/2011 20:42

timba yes thats what bothers me

PinkOlives · 30/04/2011 20:44

you can snip it upwards yourself every few weeks, my hairs dark though, if you dont like it, it will grow
im for the fringe [cwink]

SherlockHolmes · 30/04/2011 20:49

I have fine hair and recently had a blunt fringe bob about chin length. It looks more sophisticated than my previous mop style and most people have said it looks good. I am early 40s so really not in the market for a girly look.

southeastastra · 30/04/2011 20:51

something you do once every four years, then spend the four years growing it out.

DukesOfTripHazard · 30/04/2011 21:01

I say go for it. I'm blonde shoulder length and have the fringe cut really well so it's got texture and a bit longer at the sides. It's brilliant. No going back since last summer.

Ladymaryjane · 30/04/2011 21:13

I have baby fine hair and am better off without a fringe. The side sweepy ones get in my eyes and blunt cut ones need trimming regularly. I wouldn't recommend trimming your own!

And they take bloody ages to grow out properly, four years sounds about right Grin

MissBeehivingCorgis · 30/04/2011 21:16

A fringe took years off me. Mine's thick and swept to one side.

CointreauVersial · 30/04/2011 21:38

I'm a fringe girl, have had one pretty much all my life (well, I wasn't born with one, but you know what I mean). Mine is currently quite full, and swept slightly to the side, which is less severe than a full-on thick blunt cut fringe (imho).

As the OP says, it's considerably cheaper than Botox. I grew it out when I was 12, but couldn't stand the spammy forehead on show, and it hasn't been ever since.

Having fine hair means my fringe can get greasy quite quickly, but that's why God invented dry shampoo.

meditrina · 30/04/2011 22:01

southeadtastra: that's exactly what bothers me! Fine, dead straight hair too.

wasabipeanut · 30/04/2011 22:13

I have a soft bob (not Louise Brooks sharp) that varies from chin to nearly collar in length. Mid brown hair, nothing remarkable. I had a half fringe cut in a couple of haircuts ago and I love it. I can either pull it across or sweep it to the side and it is a softer look that loads of forehead I think.

I had a blunt, all the way across fringe as a student and it looked cack.Hence I avoided fringes for the next 18 years.....

WhiteBumOfTheMountain · 30/04/2011 22:18

I love my fringe....sideswep-tish....it's a bit raggedy in the same way as Audrey Hepburns is but not so short...blunt is hard to do past a certain age....too severe imo.

Mine hides my frown line....and I would not wear m hair up without it.

DarrellRivers · 30/04/2011 22:21

It is cheaper than botox

Jaspants · 01/05/2011 09:44

Takes years off you when you are old enough to need to disguise a lined forehead

bigTillyMint · 01/05/2011 09:48

I have one to cover my forehead[csmile]

FrameyMcFrame · 01/05/2011 09:59

I like Lauren Laverne's blonde fringe here

mosschops30 · 01/05/2011 10:02

Yes i like that, also like jessie jays severe cut fringe
