Are these too old-lady-tries-too-hard?

After much dithering, I bought these in bronze. I never buy M&S shoes, and now I'm worried I've committed some hideous crime against fashion. They do look nice, in a granny-on-a-cruise kind of way, and I didn't even realise they were supposed to be snakeskin, until I looked them up online for the link.

I think they are hideous, but to be fair I think most gladiator sandals are hideous. I really don't like the little heel.

docket · 26/04/2011 15:25

Hmmm, I don't think they are old-lady-tries... but I do think they are horrible, sorry!

WowOoo · 26/04/2011 15:29

I don't like them either I'm afraid. But you're the one who has to wear them.

If you love them sod what other people think. But I suspect you're not sure.....

polyhymnia · 26/04/2011 15:38

Agree with others - don't look particularly old IMO but do look rather fussy, cheap and nasty. Think the gladiator thing is becoming a bit tired now anyway, so only particularly stylish versions do it for me, I'm afraid.
But if you really like them, go for it.

tulpe · 26/04/2011 15:45

They are hideous. And not even leather which, IMO, is a huge crime against summer footwear.

sorky · 26/04/2011 15:47

Ye Gads!

Erm, if you like 'em, go for it..... I think they're erm, horrible....sorry

upahill · 26/04/2011 15:47

I think bronze is a bad shoe colour at the best of times.
I'm sorry but I think the answer to your question is 'yes'

BooyHoo · 26/04/2011 15:50

boak.

and yes i could imagine my mum in them which = old lady tries to hard.

orangina · 26/04/2011 15:52

I'm w tulpe I'm afraid (sweaty slippy feet, ewwwwwwwwwww..............)

Collision · 26/04/2011 15:57

They will really rub your feet and are quite quite vile!

Butterbur · 26/04/2011 17:12

That's unanimous, then, which must be a first on S&B!

Back they go. They were a bit of an impulse buy at the end of a long dayshopping for DD, but I'm still no closer to finding a pair of summer sandals.

Butterbur - check out Top Shop's range of sandals online. They have some gorgeous leather flat sandals for bargainous prices.

polyhymnia · 26/04/2011 19:06

Actually saw these in M and S this pm, butterbur and think your decision to return them was a very wise one!

pointydog · 26/04/2011 19:10

Not keen.

I've tried to be tolerant of gladiators but I think I was right all along. All gladiators look a bit shit.

mosschops30 · 26/04/2011 19:10

Ewwww sorry take them back

DialsMavis · 26/04/2011 19:33

The black ones look like an insect

Butterbur · 27/04/2011 11:32

Tulpe, thanks for the tip. I didn't see any that grabbed me there either.

My mum has something similar from M&S, bought last year in a deep bronze colour. She's 71.

ggirl · 27/04/2011 13:52

vile at any age

Butterbur · 27/04/2011 15:09

It seems I'm stuck with my two pairs of Primark flipflops - £1.50 each!

I like a bit of sparkle on the foot but think leather is essential in a sandal. Sorry to mention it but BOden has some nice sandals this year....
