Sunhat advice please

My 15 m.o. DS won't wear his sunhat unless I'm wearing mine, which is annoying but entirely reasonable.

At the moment I've got a dreadful camping-style one which is fine for country walks, but not for shopping in town. Can anyone recommend a style of hat which isn't too frumpy?

I'm in my early 30s and I have wavy shoulder length hair which I usually wear in a ponytail at the bottom of my neck. I'm generally wearing jeans, walking boots and a t-shirt or patterned top (definitely not the floaty dress look).

Thanks!

Mine won't wear his at all - how on earth do you keep a hat on a toddler?!!

Anyway, I'm same age as you and sound similar in style and I got a straw hat in Primark the other day for £4 and lots of people over the weekend said how nice it was.

Ooh, I'll have a look at Primark - thanks.

DS wants to do whatever we do. So I say, 'Look, Mummy's hat! Here's DS's hat!' Then I sing a stupid song about 'DS has got his hat on; hip hip hip hooray; DS has got his hat on and we're going out to play'. Blush DH joins in too. We've had various instances of hat refusal but we seem to be successful more often than not. :)

Ha ha! Sounds like a plan - anything involving a song is usually well received!

I found a hat today at the market in the end - strawish but with a narrow brim as floppy just makes me look like a scarecrow!

Good luck with the hat tactics. I think constant hat replacement wears them down in the end too - if it doesn't wear you down first. Wink
