Wedding shoes ideas, please!!

Help!! I am getting married in 3 months and cannot for the love of god find any decent wedding shoes.

Here is my dress - www.essensedesigns.com/dress-D1158 currently winging its way over from Australia as I only decided on it 6 weeks ago.

However I really, really need some good shoes to go with it. I quite like 1930s stuff, and I don't want too big a heel as I have thin soles and standing all day is likely to have me needing morphine (plus it's a stately home wedding so I am likely to trip on the gravel and break a limb well before that, really). Something I could feasibly wear again would be good, and budget isn't an issue (though I am not marrying an oligarch or even a banker so perhaps under £500 would be a good limit if anyone needs one). Thanks!

Under £500...blimey!

Well personally i just bought some shoes that i really liked, dont see the need for 'wedding shoes'. Mine jsut happened to be bright pink but go with what you like.

They dont actually show very much under a wedding dress anyway.

The best bit of advice I had for my wedding was to buy two pairs of shoes.

One for photographs/ walking down the aisle/posterity, and one pair of wedges for the rest of the day/dancing.

And if you get gold or silver shoes you'll be able to wear them as party shoes forever more Grin

Yes, just buy some shoes that you love from a regular shop (high street/designer/whatever you fancy). Wedding shoes are fugly without exception.

jaype · 26/04/2011 11:11

Great - I have never spent more than £80 on a pair of shoes in all my 37 years, but as this is a special occasion I know I can splash out a bit! Blush

Wedding shoes are vile, hence the problem I have had, especially as I have a pathological aversion to 70s mummy shoes slingbacks.

Do you think these are a bit Dorothy / don't go with dress or okay?

With a dress that long (and I love it BTW!) would you consider wearing ballet pumps/flats underneath for comfort as nobody will see them anyway or are you concerned about height?

If you really want heels then I'd say ballroom dancing shoes are the way to go..super comfortable, a range of heal heights, and often with a very classic t-bar design.

Something like this perhaps:

Congrats on the upcoming wedding!
I had silver open sandals with some jewels with my ivory gown, I thought it was fun and modern. And you can always wear them later, if you wish so.

Vesta1 · 26/04/2011 11:43

Oh, and I wouldn't change them into something more comfortable, if you worried about possible tiredness, then insoles are your friends.

How about those? :)

thehairybabysmum · 26/04/2011 12:50

The shoes you have limked to are nice...but not $300 nice...sorry!

What colour are your flowers, or is there a colour you could pick? My friend wore some fabulous boots under her dress.

these are nice here

thehairybabysmum · 26/04/2011 13:00

these are nice

If you were getting married on Friday, these would be fab patriotic!

i like these too, though not such a wedding-y colour here

TethersEnd · 26/04/2011 13:26

These are cheap, gorgeous, not too high and very 30s ish...

jaype · 26/04/2011 21:44

I love a couple of the Rupert Sandersons but... those dance shoes might be the way to go. Might order both and have a good try on. Sadly I can't really do pointy shoes as I have skinny ankles and this makes my feet look huge. They are quite long. H-t-b calls them my 'flappers'.

Thanks so much everyone.

Try Emmy. My Emmy shoes were perhaps my biggest wedding extravagance when I got married but I loved them. They're not cheap but they were beautiful and they were the comfiest heels I've ever worn - I wore them from about midday till past midnight and didn't want to take them off at the end of the night. I justified the price to myself because they make them to order and hence I was able to order one shoe half a size bigger than the other to fit my odd feet! They have lots of 1930s type styles and customise the details/heel height to your choice.

YouCantTeuchThis · 27/04/2011 10:40

hmm... how 'bout these

not 30's but nice

Boots?

Fumblina · 27/04/2011 20:19

What about these?

jaype · 27/04/2011 22:24

Hmmm. Some just scream "I am a wedding shoe and you will never, NEVER wear me again!". I do like some of the Monsoon ones, but I just know I will be hobbling about by 6pm.

Anyone suggest any good insoles? Maybe this is the answer? I have tried party feet and they are rubbish. I honestly have such skinny soles (if I had time or the will I should have a transplant of padding from my mummy belly :) ) that I am like the princess and the pea.

Have you had a look at Rachel Simpson shoes? They are lovely. I wish I had bought Rachel Simpson shoes but i had already got my wedding shoes by the time I discovered them. The heel heights are sensible and she does lots of leather and suede styles (so not screaming 'satin bridal shoe alert' at you!) Her designs are very vintage-y.

I went to Emmy and had every intention of getting my shoes there, but was not really impressed with the quality for the price tbh. The style I wanted would have been close to £500 and the sample shoes I tried you could see the glue where the heel tips had been attached and the tip itself wasn't even straight. They have a fantastic reputation though and people who have bought their shoes usually rave about how comfortable they are. They will do extra internal padding for you at no extra charge. Their designs are amazing and you can get them made from all sorts of different leathers and fabrics so you could get something e.g. in silver leather that you could wear again.

These are nice rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk/range.php?range=6&name_id=49&style_id=176

And these rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk/range.php?range=2&name_id=22&style_id=146

These aren't ivory, so wearable again (although the others are wearable again I reckon as not satin) rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk/range.php?range=2&name_id=32&style_id=160

These are a bit high, but enclosed so easier to walk in rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk/range.php?range=2&name_id=25&style_id=157

NB I do not work for Rachel Simpson, honest!!!

AbsDuCroissant · 28/04/2011 13:13

There are these by Miu Miu which are 1930s esque
