what is the position if Clarks sell you a poorly fitting pair of children's shoes

Took DD2 to get some sandals on Friday as her crocs were to small and rubbing and her only other shoes are wintery startrite shoes that are on the small side now.

She was measured her and they brought out 2 pairs of sandals which both fitted her well apparently.

Bought a pair but she has been wearing them for 4 days but they have rubbed a little blister on her heal (despite wearing with socks as instructed), she takes them off at the first opportunity and protests at putting them on as i think they are uncomfy and they seem to be a bit big, too wide so her feet are slipping around in them a bit at the heal.

Am really cross as they were £26 so not cheap and were intended to be her main shoes...is there any basis for taking them back or am i stuck with them?

Take them back.

They are a total rip off.

I get the kids' shoes from Brantano and Asda. I can tell if they fit better myself tbh.

Yes take them back, we had a pair we were sold for ds2 about a year ago, supposedly a size 7 but they were smaller than his 6s. I had the receipt luckily and had bought them about 6 months previously in a sale (I do this, then fit them myself at home, when child's feet are roughly the right size).

They had a look, apologised profusely and said their shoes sometimes come in a bit randomly sized HmmHmm and these were clearly too small...you couldn't get the foot in let alone wear them.

They replaced them with a pair the same but in a bigger size, which fitted perfectly, and we got them for even less than the sale price as they had been further reduced.

However much I resent their shameless marketing by guilt, I cannot fault the customer service. Take them back.

Take them back and complain.

I avoid Clarks these days. I got fed up of them trying to squash my small, but wide-footed dd into shoes up to one and a half sizes longer to compensate for the narrowness of the width. She was forever tripping in them!

I stick to independent shops now.

Take them back. They are not fit for purpose. You've paid a premium for fitted shoes that don't fit.

I was in Clarks on Friday, staring at dismay at the selection of boy's sandals. Door to stock room was open and I saw a notice on the wall that said "Target for this hour" and a clock face thingy underneath with movable hands. Clark's lady went in and changed "target" from about 4 to 20 as the shop was really full. She said to the trainee "If they come for sandals, sell them shoes too; if they come for shoes sell sandals too, play on the weather; don't forget wellies and Doodles and bags, polish and shoe labels". Put me right off Clark's and I will going to John Lewis on Tuesday.

Take them back and get a refund.

Agree with others that you should take them back. I've had to take shoes back a few times that have been 'fitted' for my daughter, only to find they rub her feet/flap about, etc. It has never been a problem - after all they are the 'experts' and as you say, £28 is a lot of money for a pair of kids' shoes!

Meggles76 · 25/04/2011 10:00

Yes, Take them back. DD who is now 6 has very long narrow feet. Last year they 'fitted' and sold me a pair of T-bar school shoes. After a few wears the fit looked dreadful and I took her to our local John Lewis (who have always been excellent for shoe fitting) and asked for a second opinion. They told me they would never have sold me the shoe for her in the first place. I still had the receipt and went back and spoke to the Manager. They decided that they did not cater for such a narrow foot and refunded me. I then went back to John Lewis and bought a Startrite pair and have stuck with the brand ever since.

Agree with others, take them back. I had DS's feet measured at a Clarks shop and they gave us shoes that he complained for days were too small. So I took him back to the same Clarks shop and asked someone else to measure him and they came out with a totally different size!! The manager was v apologetic etc and replaced the shoes obviously with the right size.

Op, I was in Clarke's today and there was a lady with the same problem, she had spoke to the manager and got a new pair I think, was it you?!
