I have my first bigish night out on Friday since I had DD 5 months ago, but I am still fat and disgusting Sad. To make things worse my only and mortal enemy will be there so want to look as hot as I can.

I have a couple of options to wear they are both vaguely vintage style dresses that mask the worst bits and show off the BF norks (godsend!). But I need shoes. I don't usually wear heels but need them in this instance. Am I best to go for wedges? I don't really like mid heels just the walloping great big ones but unfortunately I walk like I wasn't born female in them.

Can anyone suggest some good ones? I think nude or tan would look best. I can't link to the dresses as they are old. I am up for other suggestions as to what to wear as well though!

I am 29, a wobbly size 14 for dresses, 5ft 7. My legs are awful so was thinking of wearing leggings/footless tights and I also have a huge CS overhang-don't I sound delightful?! Please help!

your dress with leggings sounds fine. if you have some knickers which can flatten your tummy a little then this may help. most high st stores sell them now.
as for shoes either ballet flats if you dont like heels or wedges.. hope you enjoy yourself Smile

DialsMavis · 25/04/2011 14:25

I have some seriously large knickers in readiness...Grin

dont wear a dress with leggings to a night out silly, get your legs out or wear tights, you will look frumpy in leggings, and dont worry about wobbly bits tights hold them in
tights and flats are fine, but leggings with anything other than sandals or heels will make you look 13

go on asos for heels or wedges some really cheap and nice ones sometimes, new look do some great ones too

hope you find something fab :)

ggirl · 25/04/2011 17:09

please no leggings
fake tan your legs

DialsMavis · 25/04/2011 19:39

I have to have something on my legs... and I will deffo be trying heels. I am almost 30 for gawds sake... its now or never to look a bit more grown up (and hopefully slim!)

What colour are the dresses? These wedgey mules are v comfy, not too high but fairly sassy and great for shlepping about in casual gear too. PlLus they are dead cheap and come in beige, white, pink or red.

SilkStalkings · 25/04/2011 19:56

Leggings, esp cropped ones, are great under dresses and with heels! Combined with a showstopper dress it stops you looking like you're trying too hard LOL.

magicmelons · 25/04/2011 20:02

Leggings and heels are a massive no no imo, fake tan you may feel a little self conscious but you'll look better.

magicmelons · 25/04/2011 20:03

Silk are you insane she is 30 not 50, those shoes are not sexy, sorry.

carlywurly · 25/04/2011 20:10

magic, thought that was a bit harsh until I looked at the link. Grin
No no no. Try Next or asos instead. Or New Look are great for wedge sandals if you want something cheap and cheerful.

I wouldn't wear leggings with a dress on a night out, cropped or otherwise. I would just wax and tan your legs, get some hold everything in pants and go for it.

JackieNo · 25/04/2011 20:17

I tried \link{http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/shoes/canvas-cork-wedge_214493701\these wedge peeptoes} on in New Look the other day - they were pretty comfortable and a great price, but they are quite high. High wedges are easier to walk in than other high heels though, imo.

magicmelons · 25/04/2011 20:20

carly i'm usually very restrained and mild mannered but i had to say it, sorry silk.

Asos have some good reasonable priced pairs and my other advice would be book a blow dry at your hairdressers and apply some fake lashes if you prefer subtly use the individual ones and just put some mid length ones at the outer edges. It will transform you into a glamour puss.

DialsMavis · 25/04/2011 20:30

Tights, what about black tights? huh?huh? with big wedges. That was ok'd on the accidental 1st version I did of this thread before I realised it was secret one. Here

would something like this really not be ok with footless tights? what do you all think about tights and peep toes?

I love these but I would break my neck I think
Not really keen on those Silk but thanks for hunting for me!Thats the problem , I am unsued to heels but only like big ones. So will I be able to walk a bit in high wedges?
Seen some wicked ones on asos but want to be able to try them on if poss as my feet are huge after pregnancy.

One dress is floral (it is nice), and one duck egg blue.

My budget is probably £50 (ish)for shoes and would prob spend £40 on another dress if I saw a really flattering on. Don't want to spend too much more as I plan to be too skinny for dress soon and it is my first foray into proper shoes for years.

Have a spray tan a week efore the do, I am crap at walking in heels but I can walk in wedges and I bought these shoes which I can walk in too:

www.johnlewis.com/198186/Style.aspx

If you do want to splash out on a new dress, I find Esprit dresses very forgiving Wink

SaggyHairyArse · 25/04/2011 20:35

Magicmelons is right, those shoes aren't right (I personally wouldnot wear them on the beach let alone for a night out Shock).

DialsMavis · 25/04/2011 20:41

This is nice? (students have 20% off at New Look at the mo)

I think most of these would look OK and mask the tummy.

River island actually have some nice shift sresses at the moment too.

I also have a pewter grey shift that hides everything well but I am really bored of it, I usually wear it with leggings and nude ballet flats in the day.

I didn't like my wedding dress
have always regretted it

ggirl · 25/04/2011 21:18

wrong thread sorry

magicmelons · 25/04/2011 22:44

I've tried this on and its really nice and very flattering, those second tops shoes are amazing too. You'd be suprised at how comfortable high platform shoes are. Depends how mortal that enemy is too Wink

magicmelons · 25/04/2011 22:45

ps the only reason i didn't buy it was because i'm pregnant and will not be able to fit into it next week.

DialsMavis · 25/04/2011 22:52

she is 'best friend who slept with father of your first born last time you were fat and recently birthed bad' (whole other thread!) so will try the killer heels and recommended frock.
DP (not same one obv) can't understand the need to look my best, but is humoring and enabling me all the same Smile

I like the dress in Teal, but will have to see if it is in store as they only have 16 online (probably am a top shop 16 at the moment though). But weight is finally starting to shift more quickly now so will have to try on. Thanks for your advice

OP posts:
magicmelons · 26/04/2011 08:22

The teal is really lovely they only had one left in store. I had to size up in that dress because i've my ever increasing boobs so may not be a problem.

She deserves a glass of wine down her front Shock what a cow. Good your dp is humouring you it says a lot about a man.

DialsMavis · 26/04/2011 13:15

I got the teal, it is lovel. It is in a 16 I have also got a not nearly so nice New Look version of the nude shoes (£15 with student discount) and will see if I can learn to walk in them whilst still hunting for wedges. I wil think about leg coverings later.

The cow has Karma catching up with her anyway, she still has an enviable figure (even after twins Envy) but is looking more and more like Kurt Russell with every passing year Grin
