How much to get a mole removed?

I've got a couple on my neck - nothing very noticeable, but I notice them and I hate them. Want rid. Obvs can't get it done on NHS as it's cosmetic, but how much will it cost? Have googled a few places - many are v annoying and do not put prices on Hmm

I'm thinking of asking my GP to recommend a surgeon who does private work - has anyone done this and how much did it cost?

Watching with interest...

If its effecting the way you feel about youself then you should be able to get it done on the NHS. I have a large mole on my back and the gp said they will remove it if its bothering me (even though its fine).

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 24/04/2011 21:16

I have one on my chin that I hate. I looked into removal at Sk:n recently and it was £99 to see a doctor to have it confirmed as a mole and then £149 per mole (I believe). Their prices are on line if you want to check.

I did have some moles removed on my body at my GP's surgery a couple of years ago. Took five minutes max and was done at a special 'mole surgery', but I wouldn't go down that route for my face.

I don't like them but I don't know if they 'affect the way I feel about them'. If the GP could take them off and do a good job that would be cool, but I don't want to take up space on a waiting list.

It does seem to be about 250 quid per mole, sometimes with subsequent moles cheaper. I'm just dithering because that seems quite a lot when they aren't that noticeable (DH thinks they are 'sweet' and 'part of you' Hmm ) If it was a big one on the front of my face I wouldn't hesitate.

Has anyone had this done on their face, if so which method, and what is the scarring like?

Like the OP, I hate mine. I have one that used to be flat and is now raised and I am aware that I am not looking people in the eye now when I talk to them in case they are looking at it Blush - time to get rid I think...

mosschops30 · 24/04/2011 21:21

My gp took one off my face a few years ago. Just booked a double appointment and was done in the surgery.
Wouldnt bother going private

RancerDoo · 24/04/2011 21:22

You need to see a plastic surgeon (so I've been told) and find out what any resulting scarring would look like - sometimes it simply isn't worth having them removed. If they're easy, he might just whip them off while you are there having a consultation.

Some example costs here, although I have no experience of that particular clinic for mole removal.

ohmyfucksy · 24/04/2011 22:09

I might ask my GP and see what they say. If they are happy to do it I will probably just go for it - they are not very big moles and are in the shadow of my jaw, so a little scar won't matter too much

Contact Medicetics in London - Dr Geoff Mullen very very good at mole removal, well known for not leaving any scarring.

valiumbandwitch · 25/04/2011 21:16

Do it! I had one taken off my face but unfortunately it grew back!! they say that 2% of the time they grow back but I think that figure is higher. Anyway, I went back to the same surgeon and he removed the skin and sewed it back together, so, not shaved but literally cut around and pieces around it stitched back together. There is a small scar but I prefer this to a horrible mole which was 7mm wide and high. yuck, i feel eeeyoooo typing that! glad it's gone.

ohmyfucksy · 25/04/2011 21:20

See valium, if I had a mole like that I would def get it removed. But at the moment they are maybe 1-2 mm diameter and not really that noticeable. Fear I may be too cheap to shell out 300 quid per mole or whatever it is

Medicetics look really good, bit annoying that every mole HAS to be sent for histology which costs 80 quid though...

I have had three moles removed from my face. I used Bristol Plastic Surgery. Cost about £500. Really worth it though. Very pleased I had it done. Scarring on two is really minimal. The one near my lip left a bit more of a mark but it was big and deep.

Hmm...might treat myself if my next bonus is decent!

Depends on your health authority as to whether they'll be done on nhs.

I had one removed from my back and one from under my arm about 6 years ago and had to do it privately but was only about £150.

springbokdoc · 26/04/2011 22:53

I'd double-check if your GP would do this (many do a minor surgery list) although s/he may be hesitant if it's on the neck/face. You may well be in an area that will pay for you to see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for removal.

If not, then personally I would ask for recommendations from GP, and take it from there. Is it the look of them or Are they raised which bothers you?
