Elasticated waist (argh!) trousers

Right. Have huge fibroid which means my tummy is permanently ~ 20 wks pregnant-looking (sometimes more, sometimes a bit less depending on stage of cycle.)

My usual style used to be loose fit bottoms and fitted tops, but obv this just accentuates the 'bump', which I hate, so I've swapped round to wearing fitted bottoms and loose / a-line type tops. This works relatively well, but I tend to find the waist-band (and the bit below the zip Hmm) digs in under the fibroid and pushes it up, which is uncomfortable to say the least. I have one pair of high-waist jeans, but the buttons up the front add bulk which I don't need.

What I'd love to find is some semi-structured-type slim fit / straight / skinny trousers (jeans, chinos, cargos etc) preferably with elasticated waist.

Do such things exist (outside of maternity-wear)?

Help, please, oh lovely ladies...

Hate to say this really, but have you tried the "classic" section of M and S? They do elasticated waists, and I'm sure a pair of their cargos would look perfectly fine under an A-Line top.

Online try Lands End or try Dash in the shops (ignore all the ghastly lilac jersey pants etc) and you may find something there.

noddyholder · 24/04/2011 10:59

Are you getting it sorted with a doctor etc?

cheesebaby · 24/04/2011 11:22

Thanks all - keep 'em coming (even if it does involve M&S classic Grin)

noddy - I've had to choose between getting rid, and preserving childbearing potential; basically the risk of bleeding / hysterectomy is too high given I wish to have more kids (only DD is just 2).

So I just have to put up with it til I'm done having kids, tough tho it is on self-image etc, folk have a lot worse to deal with!

I'm quite tempted by IO maternity jeans, but Shock the price, and I also suspect they'd fall down all the time which drives me mad. They have some nice cropped-type things with a waistband that looks ideal here, but they're £95 quid!

Zara have lovely slim chinos in with an elasticated waist(drawstring type like you get on jogging trousers iyswim?). Think they are £26 and they come in tan, navy and a lovely pale pink.

Cheese, you could be me! I HATE my tum, and elasticated waists are the only comfy option, though I die a little inside every time I wear them. I have found M&S ok for winter black trousers, but struggle for anything summery.

Watching with interest.

Good luck with future little cheeses - I went for my hyster pre-op appointment and doc found dd on the ultrasound - I had no idea Blush. Still waiting for the op, can't contemplate it with a toddler.

Can you go longer with your tops and try leggings?

cheesebaby · 24/04/2011 14:21

Great - I'll have a look at zara and wallis Smile

KeepCalm - crikey that must have been a shock! Is your tum caused by fibroid(s) too? I'll be in for a repeat c-section for any future DC (again courtesy of fibroid - oh joy), and yes the prospect of getting over that and then going in for more surgery doesn't exactly fill me with joy... it sounds like having it removed at time of section would almost guarantee a hysterectomy, so either way it looks like I'm stuck with this for the relatively long-haul.

bran - I've just measured; my natural waist is 36", round the fattest part is 40", and hips also 40" All the bump is up front - so it's really noticeable from the side; from the front/back I look OK Hmm

zachary - yes, leggings are by far the most comfy option Blush, but I find with longer tunics they flow out and then nip back in iyswim, so I'm better with something hip length really...

They wouldn't sort out my fibroids during my cs, Cheese - I did ask. Apparently the increased blood supply during pregnancy means it is too risky, haemorrhages and such.
