Clothes that are a 'miss' what do you do with them?

I bought a quite expensive dress last summer for a wedding. Liked it at the time but photos of the wedding convinced me it was a mistake. So it's been downgraded to a work dress with a long cardy or shirt over the top,

What do you do with 'misses'?

I think it must be a legacy of my wartime parents but I hate chucking clothes away when they are still new and especially if they cost a bit.

I try and think of a friend who it may suit and offer it to them ... that way i dont feel as bad about the mistake!

Charity shop or ebay!

Charity shops counts as 'chucking away' ! And I've never tried ebay. Perhaps I should.

I'm not sure any of my mates would appreciate my clothing choices.... Grin

I leave them in my wardrobe. Try them on before every event they are suitable for. Realise I still don't like them. Return them to wardrobe.

Maybe I should try ebay too...

I have a dress in my wardrobe that will never fit again now I have had BabyFABs but it didn't fit before really Hmm. It cost a bomb from Monsoon though so can't bring myself to throw it. Have tried to sell it but not very well.

I usually alter them if poss (ie raise the hem or change the shape like A-line to empire line or add new straps), or take to a frock swap or charity shop

Tried on a yellow sundress today. Did not look good. Put it back in the wardrobe. And there it will stay til the next try on.

There is an upmarket dress swap place that takes 'labels' but the effort of washing and preparing makes me feel too bored to do it!

I should really...

MarshaBrady · 21/04/2011 17:16

And all other stuff that was cheap goes straight to charity bin. or bin if too awful for charity.

I have a pair of boots that I have worn once that I know I will not wear again.

Nothing wrong with them as such - they originally cost £160 from French Connection and I bought them in the sale. I should have worn them around the house first to discover that they are really to big around the ankle for me. They are lovely knee length boots.

Also have a skirt that cost me £60, it did seem to fit when I tried it on (last September) and when I come to wear it for work in the winter, it's too big.

I keep saying to myself that I need to ebay them even if I recoup £40 or £50 between both items.

We do frock swaps every 6 months or so, nothing formal just about 10 friends and a few bottles of vino, we each bring a bag (or few) of clothes/shoes/accessories that we'll never wear again for whatever reason and everyone helps themselves to each other's stuff. It's a fun free night and IMO well worth doing.
