Bespoke shoes in London??

Anyone ever had shoes made in London? I have impossibly narrow feet and if I add up all I have spent on illfitting shoes in my time it would add up to more than one pair of bespokes. My mother, who has very similar feet, is having late in life foot problems as she has spent her life in badly fitting shoes. So I am determined to get it done.

Any recommendations out there?

Have you looked at duo? Their width fit shoes are for narrow as well as wide feet. Www.duo boots.com

Another place you could try is James Inglis. They sell narrow-fitting shoes by mail-order.

Do you know what width-fitting you are? If you just have narrow feet (and no other issues, like feet of different sizes), you might not need to get shoes made. I have AA feet and it was a revelation to me to find that I could actually buy shoes that fit. Some good shoe shops and department stores in north america stock a range of narrow fitting shoes, so if you have any holidays planned you might be able to get some there.

Georgina Goodman make bespoke shoes, and there's an FT article here that suggests some other places too. The prices are a bit stunning. If you decide to go this route, it's worth finding a designer you will want to stick with, because they will be able to use the same last for any future pairs of shoes.

I've never tried the bespoke route, but I dream of doing so if I ever win the lottery. I buy very few pairs of shoes but it's amazing to have a pair that fits.

Thanks both. Duo are too wide in narrow. James inglis is also often too wide in some brands. My feet are quadruple a. It's a nightmare.

Selve are now based in Germany but come to London. here

Quadruple A are really hard to find. Fwiw, Neiman Marcus (in the US) occasionally have Stuart Weitzman in quadruple As. They won't take international orders on their website (although you can browse it to see if they have anything you want), but they do let you place international orders over the phone. Of course then you have issues with customs and duty, but if it's a brand that works for you it might be worth a try.

It might be that getting shoes made turns out to be the cheaper option! If you do get some shoes made, please will you come back and tell us how it goes? I would love to know.

Hi I'm a Mumsnetter and bespoke shoemaker!

Two things to consider are that if you choose a shoemaker you need to like their designs AND them as well. Once you have made the financial commitment to have bespoke shoes made you need to know that the person you are entrusting your footwear to is someone who understands you, your style and what you want.

It IS worth the investment. You may spend several thousands of pounds now but if you choose handsewn shoes they will last 10 - 15 years so work out at about £200 per pair a year. Just think, the perfect pair of ankle boots, knee boots, pumps, loafers and lace-ups that fit and that will save you expensive podiatry bills later on!

For high heels go to Jimmy Choo couture (the original one not the manufactured ones), Rupert Sanderson or Georgina Goodman. Each has a very different style but all should do bespoke. If you want stacked leather heels then come to see me! I'm one half of carreducker and a handsewn, bespoke shoemaker. Although most of our clients are men we do women's handsewn stacked leather heel shoes and boot. We're based at Gieves & Hawkes, 1 Savile Row from Tuesday to Friday.

Finally try shopping online from a US footwear company. They have a much greater choice of width fittings. Happy hunting and I hope you have some success.
