Hair Removal

Now the weather is starting to get a little warmer! I feel I need to keep on top of my hair removal!

I use to always have my legs and 'bits and pieces' waxed, but since having children, I don't and I put this down to time and money, and just shave.

I would like to use hair removal that lasts a long time, any recommendations, as I'm going on holiday for two weeks? What do you do?

Epilator, epilator!!! It does take a bit of getting used to, and yes it does hurt at first (but not as much as waxing IMHO) but it's great - so much cheaper, you can do it as and when in the comfort of your own home, and - the best bit for me - you can keep on top of it, use it on short hair and take it on holiday with you for tidying up - unlike waxing where you have those couple of weeks of gorilla-dom beofre it's long enough to wax again...

Plus the hair grows back much weaker and slower, and less thick. Exfoliating is a must to guard against ingrowers - but those I get with epilating never get inflamed the way the ones I used to get with waxing did

Daimbardiva, thank you for your reply, I will invest in an epliator, as I was use to the hurt from waxing so this should be okay?! Which epilator would you recommend?

bumping for you as I'm also considering epilation.

Ephiny · 20/04/2011 21:40

Yes epilation is the way to go. If you're used to waxing you shouldn't really find it painful. The Braun Silk-Epil ones are good.

DiscoDaisy · 20/04/2011 21:43

I use cream as I found an epilator more painful than giving birth (and I did that 5 times!) Grin

UniS · 20/04/2011 21:46

so wise ones... cream brings me out in a rash ( even sensitive skin ones) waxing caused hideous bruises... shaving is dull and repetitive... what might I try next??

jimswifein1964 · 20/04/2011 21:49

Epilators just didnt work on me; did I do something wrong? Should they work first time?

daimbardiva · 20/04/2011 22:59

I use a Braun Silk-epil too, and have been pretty happy with it. Was I to be buying now, I'd probably get one that could be used in the shower too.

As far as them not working...the first few times are definitely a bit of a trial as hair is still thick and strong. You probably won't find yourself with beautifully smooth legs affter your very first session. It is normally a good idea to shave first (with the head provided) as it is more diffcult/less effective if the hair's too long.

It does take a bit of perseverance/teeth-gritting, but I've really found it to be worth it...

BUT I guess we're all different - hope it works for you too!

babysbreath · 21/04/2011 07:22

Thanks for your advice, I'm going to buy an epilator - wish me luck, hope the neighbours don't hear my screams!

I used the Braun Silk Epil 3 for the first time yesterday. Was very nervous of the pain as I find getting my bikini line the most painful thing ever.
But the epilator was fine! Started with my bikini line, and yes it hurts, but no more that waxing IMO. And waxing always seems to "rip" at the skin too, which I hated. This just tackles the hairs.
I am a convert.
