I've seen a lot of this sort of stuff in Gap and Boden over the last few years and noticed a few other shops are jumping on the bandwagon too. Do you think they are a bit too cutesy as I try to avoid all the animal stuff usually as well.

pears
strawberries
cherries
bananas
grapes
melons
kiwis
mangoes
pineapples
raspberries
oranges
chocolate
cakes
french fries
burgers
milkshakes
crisps
biscuits

flowers
hawaiian print etc

Better than Dora's big face though. Or 'Born to Shop' or 'Daddy's Princess'.

OrangeBernard · 19/04/2011 00:54

Are you insane? What is wrong with animals. You could just dress your child in a unisex khaki overall?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 19/04/2011 01:01

I have a big issue with cherries on children's clothes.

And I'm not sure why.

Confused

I'd really rather have plain or patterned (flowery/gingham/checked/striped) clothes for mine rather than those with motifs (sp?).

But I must say after having a boy after 3 girls I have become more lenient - although I will not buy anything with licensed characters on.

nappyaddict · 19/04/2011 01:11

I like plain stuff, checks, spots, stars, swirls etc. There's not much of it about though especially in the colours I like.

I have found H+M to be good for relatively inexpensive childrens clothing, esp in sale, about the same price as Primark but less pink!

Northumberlandlass · 19/04/2011 07:38

I actually quite like (for want of a better word) kitsch clothes - so I like hawaiian prints, 70's style t-shirts etc.

But yes Nappy Addict - I despise animals, as you know my biggest hate was the babygrows with ears. I made sure that when ds was born that these were unacceptable as was anything with a teddy bear on.

I don't mind the Boden stuff with sharks / dinosaurs, it is more the cutesy thing that puts me off.

I will admit to DS having a 'Elvis is King' t-shirt as a small baby, but only because it looked mega cool as did his Junior Jedi one.

DS is now 7 (god help me) and is usually found in AC/DC / Motorhead t-shirts.

I much prefer stripes - H&M were all about stripes when DS was baby and I spent most of my time there.

What sort of response do you want to those lists? Confused
French fries - no
Raspberries - fine
etc??
What's the point of this thread?

Emo76 · 19/04/2011 08:08

hahahhaha laughing at and semi agreeing with prunnhilda!

animals OK with me

obvious branding and "mummy's little...daddy's little..lock up your daughters" stupid slogans worse than fruit IMO

Cattleprod · 19/04/2011 08:17

I like bold pictures, so a stylised or cartoon animal or foodstuff would be fine with me. I'm not keen on twee animal images - Forever Friends, that kind of thing, and I don't like gender stereotyped slogans - 'wag in training', 'I'm an obnoxious little shit' etc.

Stripes are good, not keen on all over prints and gingham scares me - such a sinister fabric.

Plain trousers are ok, but a plain top can look a little dull unless it has some other interesting feature.

muminthemiddle · 19/04/2011 08:36

Burgers made me laugh the most.
Personally I do not like animal print on anybody, unless you are auditioning for a role in the lion king of course then i will let you off!!!

Agree about the slogan clothes too especially the stereotyping ones Eg "Born to be a WAG, mummy's mucky little boy etc.

Cattleprod · 19/04/2011 08:39

Did anyone see that episode of Viva la Bam, where Bam ironed a burger transfer onto every single piece of his dad's clothing? Grin

KristinaM · 19/04/2011 08:58

Nappy addict -you seem to have a real issue with this! I remember you posting an Almost identical thread to this in January here

KristinaM · 19/04/2011 09:01

And here is a similar one about colours of boys clothes!

Are you doing Market research for a company?

BooBooGlass · 19/04/2011 09:02

I have thought that too about a lot of your 'listy' threads. Sorry if i'm wrong

TrillianAstra · 19/04/2011 09:32

That a huge list.

Are you making clothes for children?

So Chaos, if you don't like cherries (presumably because cherry represents virginity) does that mean that apples represent temptation? Do cookies/crisps/biscuits represent childhood obesity? And rainbows mean your child will be gay of course... :o

How on earth could you have a picture of a crisp on a t-shirt anyway?

BosomForAPillow · 19/04/2011 09:42

Hahaha at sinister gingham.

BosomForAPillow · 19/04/2011 09:47

I think fruit = fine
fast food = no
animals = depends, dd has a lovely fish t-shirt from Gap
sunshine/rain etc = fine

Daddy's little princess etc = awful.

Crisp on a t-shirt = dd would like this a lot. I've never seen it for sale.

So if you're a clothes maker, go for the crisps.

TheSmallClanger · 19/04/2011 11:47

I thought this was about adult clothes to begin with. Blush

wondersofthestonersystem · 19/04/2011 12:32

I thought it was about adult clothes too - lots of prints around atm with repeated patterns of birds, animals etc & 50's cherry prints etc.

Emo76 · 19/04/2011 12:54

gingham is a sinister fabric ,cattleprod you've made me look at it in a different light....!

Cattleprod · 19/04/2011 13:27

Yes, I find it sinister in a 'bloke in a mac hiding in the bushes near the play park/childcatcher/Chuckle brothers/knicker sniffing/paedophile' sort of way. Particularly if it's yellow or, worse, lilac

I don't know where the association came from - I've never suffered abuse.

Longtalljosie · 19/04/2011 13:34

On this subject, I've just been given a t-shirt for 20 month old DD with "I'm a little lady" on it. Fortunately quite small, but definitely there. What do I do? Tempted to just bury it in the bottom of the chest of drawers? Or do I actually take it back? I can see why it was bought - the girl on it has a handbag and DD is obsessed with them (not me, guv, she started with the coolbag which went to the CMs) but - "I'm a little lady"? Bleurgh...

bunnymother · 19/04/2011 13:38

Take a photo of her in it and then either return it or give it away. And for OP, try Zara - their baby/toddler range is usually excellent.

leavesleaves · 19/04/2011 14:03

bwa ha ha . . . I thought this was about adult women's clothing as well . . . having just looked at a dress with an "adorable" cat print on it. As to banana prints, perhaps your hatred of them will come as a blow to Miuccia Prada . . . but more likely not.
