Anyone use Creme de la Mer?

I know it's hideously expensive but when I add up what I spend on my skincare (Khiels & Decleor normally) it's probably about the same - cleanser, moisturiser, face oil, night serum. Plus facials once a month.

I've read that 'experts' can tell who uses Creme de la Mer from just looking at their skin which has tempted me.

I'd really appreciate anyone who has/does use it letting me know if it really is superior and what products you use.

I've asked my dermatologist friend about this in the past. He laughed.

Waste of money. It's an excrutiatingly expensive suspension of fats in water and air. It feels nice on the skin, for about a couple of hours (I bought it in less well-informed days). Then the water evaporates, as it does with all whipped emulsions.

It won't do anything. Nothing OTC works that effectively as the so-called active ingredients are in too low a dose. There are a few creams that work, hyaluronics, glycolics, retinoids etc but you often have to order from a derm because the higher concentrations come with unwanted side effects in some patients.

If you want a nice cream with 'slip' that's a good base for makeup, try embryolisse.

I have followed my derm doctor friend's advice and use any oil based cleanser (currently sunflower oil with a bit of caster), sometimes cetaphil. Depends on the bathroom I'm in!

I use 50 factor sunscreen in summer

I use a glycolic agent once a week (not now I'm pregnant), mine of choice is Paula;s Choice Resist weekly resurfacer.

Then embryolisse, e45 or oilatum or argan oil as a base moisturiser.

And flexitol on my feet and arms!

Thanks for the info, very helpful, I think I will hold on to my money for now!

Otch what sunscreen do you use on your face? I used a Kheils SPF 50 moisturiser all last summer and it was great, only one I've ever found which didn't make me break out in spots and it was effective as I normally tan just by looking at the sun but my face and neck stayed untanned all year. It is expensive though so cheaper suggestions welcomed.

I found it way too heavy for my skin (as with La Prairie).

Today purchased La Roche Posay tinted SPF 50 facial moisturiser after getting a bit Hmm with the MAC prep & prime being a bit too white/violet.

Kiehl's SPF facial one is actually what I wanted but my local JL has stopped stocking it.

Bare escentuals have brough out a sun screen in powder form, it's fantastic for face and chest shoulders and ...anywhere really. So nice not to be slimy.

MayorNaze · 15/04/2011 19:41

should you not use glycolic products all the time then? oops...

otchayaniye · 15/04/2011 20:15

BelleBelle, I use any sunscreen to hand, but then I don't break out. Recently I've used the L'Oreal one that's tinted. I think Sisley ones are supposed to be gentle but more $$$$ than Khiels (whose ultra bland moisture cream is good, but overpriced, sadly)

MayorNaze, glycolics in smaller concentrations are fine I guess if they don't irritate, I was thinking of the treatments that use 10-15 pct. Wouldn't use those everyday, but you could up to twice a week if your skin tolerated it.
