Has anyone tried eyelash extensions?

I've got a spate of weddings coming up and have been thinking about trying individual eyelash extensions. My eyelashes are very fair and thin on the ground, I've tried strip lashes and they look over the top on me.

Has anyone tried extensions? How long do they last? Do they pull your own lashes out when they come off?

I've had this type of extension applied by a salon several times - usually for a special wedding/big night out etc.

They have lasted approx 1-2 weeks & do pull my own lashes out they come off. I you could probably get some sort of glue remover (??) to prevent that though. I'm just impatient!

If your lashes are fair then you'd probably get better results by having them tinted before having the lashes applied.

I have tried, first medium lenght ones, which looked great in the evening but were way too much for daytime. Then took the shortest possible and those looked indeed great. But only for a week or two, then started falling out, so needed to go back for top-ups.

They claim that they will not damage your own lashes, but i disagree - mine are also fair and thin and I think that this heavier lash glued to your own will make yours fall out faster as well.

I also found them too much hassle - finding time for top-up appointments every 2-3 weeks, have to remember not to rub your eyes, not to sleep on your face etc. They do look pretty though so for a short period, why not.

I had them about 10 weeks ago. A full set was £55. They have just fallen out gradually over the last few weeks and tbh I preferred them less full .She is coming back today to re do as I didn't have the infills done and this time I am having a half set for £30. I really like the freedom of no make up but also found if you put a really light coat of mascara on them for a night out they look amazing. I am not sure if they pull your lashes out I thought they just fell out with yours. I have none left now and my own lashes are fine. My lashes are fair but I didn't have them tinted and was fine. I can't wait to get them today as I am a lazy bones and love the freedom

I'm having some next week as I have the worlds shortest eye lashes and hate wearing mascara... Despite having probably tried every brand on the market.

Mine are about £50, and will last up to a month, obviously they gradually fall out, although you can get them topped up every fortnight for £15

Am hoping it's going to change my life.... Grin

IME , not long had them done, expensive and falling out bit too quickly.

Ooh thanks. I will take the plunge then! I also didn't think about tinting as well. There are 2 places near me that does them, one charges £75 and the other one £55!?

I put the eyelure individual ones on myself years ago but somehow managed to stick them to my eyelids and then had trouble getting eyeliner on!

Had them done for a holiday....they were great and lasted well.

Had them done for a wedding......they fell out, taking many of my own lashes with 'em after 4 days.

The salon girl would not have it that it wasn't just "me".

Been using the Rapidlash to get them back to some kind of quality.

Probably couldn't justify that cost again.

Ok just had them re done. Only had half set this time and its enough I definitely look less tired with them.

idratherbeboarding · 14/04/2011 14:38

I had them continuously applied over a six month period and when I stopped, my eyelashes were in a terrible state, sparse with big gaps. Luckily they have grown back but it took a while.

I would recommend a very natural set as a one off, but definitely not for continuous use. They do look good if applied by someone experienced. However, now I use a good quality conditioning mascara and I don't miss the extensions at all, personally, I wouldn't have them applied again because I don't want to compromise the condition of my natural lashes.

SeymoreBunnies · 14/04/2011 19:27

idratherbeboarding what mascara are you using now?

wibblewobble · 25/04/2011 12:36

idratherbeboarding tell us please!

traction alopecia means they could cause your own lashes to fall out. I used to have them applied to the edges- looked amazing, but I remember having no eyelashes on the outside corners of my eyes (well, from halfway along my eyelid) for months after the lashes were gone
I have been thinking about them again recently as my HoF has a big shavata eyelash bar thing- but I don't think i'd want to have bald patches again on my eyes

Have them tinted (*patch test first!) and curl them, then go to a lash bar which does lashes for the same day and see how you find them (shu uemera do this) and invest in a decent mascara (I use byterry- I also love lancome)
all better than no eyelashes at all
