Organising your wardrobe so you know exactly what you've got and what it'll go with

i can't be the only woman who finds items of clothing that I've forgotten about in my wardrobe. I'd love to find a way of organising things so this doesn't happen even more I'd love a way of working out what bits work well together. A computer program maybe? Or taking photos, but then what to do with the pics?

Has anyone got any ideas or am I being bonkers?

When I had enough space for a wardrobe in the spare room I used to move clothes I wasn't sure about keeping into there. If they stayed there a year, then I didn't want/need them & they got sent off to the charity shop. If only I had the space to do that now!!

Well I think it will work well, but I've spent a lot of today sorting out and photographing and I'm not even half way through. I'm going to try and keep going while dc's are at my mothers.

My clothes are sorted into the following groups:-
Tops
Trousers
Jeans
Skirts
Dresses
Jackets
Coats

Within each group they are sorted by colour.

I cull my wardrobe in April and October when I get get summer/winter clothes out/put my summer/winter clothes away. If it doesn't fit, I don't like it, it doesn't make me feel good or it's worn out it gets biffed. Easiest way to do this is to take everything out of the wardrobe and put it back in item by item making decisions as you go.

I have OCD I think...

This is wonderful.

Just popping my head in to say I gave up with the iphone app, I'm sure it would be fab, but my God what a time consuming faff. Have put away the winter stuff, chucked lots and given it all a good sort out. If I was bored I might carry on with photographing it all, but the weathers too nice.

Great thread! Has anyone read the Practical Princess Perfect Wardrobe book? Is it worth getting?

Mahraih · 22/04/2011 22:09

Waitingforbaby, I've not read it but read an interview with the author and considering the amount of clothes she owns, she must be organized!
