Dress for Work needed...

Stylelostinlabour · 13/04/2011 12:56

I'm after a dress for work that isn't too structured but is smart enough to wear with heels, wedges or flats.

Vital Stats:

5'7
Size 14/16 depending on brand
Nothing too structured (not looking for LK Bennett style structure)
Average Boobs
Gut
Good legs
Arm big from swimming loads.

Budget - dont really have one in mind, as i only go into office once a week and never see the same people twice so would get lots of wear from one dress.

black warehouse not sure if its a bit low cut though
like this 60's style might be a bit short for work
berry colour

isabella oliver

You need a Vivienne Westwood anglomania dress. Am on phone so will try and link...

Stylelostinlabour · 13/04/2011 15:22

Oh tethersegg link - I've just googled and found some very weird designs not appropriate for work!

Oh should of said - nothing empire line, makes me look 8 months pregnant and wrap just a bit to frumpy for me

Take a look in Phase Eight. I have a few dresses from there that are great for work with a little cardi. Some of their dresses are very wedding-y, but by no means all.

SeymoreButts · 13/04/2011 17:14

I don't normally rate Dorothy Perkins at all, but I went in there the other day and there were quite a few nice day dresses.

Like this one

doglover · 13/04/2011 17:20

How about the everyday jersey dress from Boden?

Stylelostinlabour · 13/04/2011 17:40

DP one is nice but then the back isn't good for work.

Will have a look at Phase Eight as well.

Can you link to the boden one? I've never been on the site...

Oh just noticed the back, how to ruin a nice dress!

There are some other nice ones though. Typical that I am seeing nice work clothes every where now that I don't need any for a bit!

tethersegg · 13/04/2011 20:06

Was thinking of something like this (also here in red) or this, nothing too crazy Wink

I have the second one in black, it's one of my work staples.

Boden is awful. I would link, but I'd have to gouge out my own eyes afterwards, sorry Grin

Are you looking for something more summery?

tethersegg · 13/04/2011 20:12

Also, look at hobbs dresses... some nice ones like this or this

tethersegg · 13/04/2011 20:15

two more nice hobbs ones- here and here.

K999 · 13/04/2011 20:18

I buy pretty much all of my work dresses from Hobbs. Good quality and even though they can be quite pricey, I get my money's worth! Smile

tethersegg · 13/04/2011 20:19

Try Jaeger, too- I think this is gorgeous, as is this. And this.

duckyfuzz · 13/04/2011 20:22

I wear hobbs dresses for work alot, try the outlet section of their website for some bargains

Stylelostinlabour · 13/04/2011 20:33

Oh Tetheregg - I've just added the first hobbs one my "virtual shopping basket"! lovely dress, that's me sorted for work for summer.

Now what shoes to go with? Tan?

OP posts:
tethersegg · 13/04/2011 21:24

I love tan, especially with green. Can you do heels?

Not tan but would work with green very well

Light tan t bar

Clog

Peep toe

verysomething · 24/04/2011 23:12

These tan peep toes look lovely with that green hobbs dress... I tried both on yesterday and loved them together Grin. The shoes are quite leg-lengthening even though it's only a one-inch heel. Russell and Bromley do something very similar but in a paler patent nude for £145. And if you could go a fraction higher heel there were some divine and unbelievably comfy Stuart Weitzmans at R&B (no link, sorry) with rubber sole. I'd love to wear higher heels but it's often just not practical.
