My skin is so annoying, I can have a breakout at the same time as having dry patches and they don't always occur in the same place (ie I don't have an oily T-Zone)

I drink lots of water and eat reasonably well, and avoid the sun at all costs, but I can't seem to get my face to look flawless! Grin
I do use make-up, but mainly to hide blemishes and uneven complexion, and am desperate to wean myself off it an go Au Naturel!

I don't have particulalry sensitive skin, and have just finished using a tube of Simple Oil balancing moisturiser, which made no difference. I've tried their exfoliating wipes to remove the dry patches, but seem far to harsh. Sitting here now, I have washed my face this evening and put on some moisturiser, but my forhead feels tight, AND I have a couple of lovely (PMT) spots too!

Can you suggest any moisturisers/face wash/wipes etc or a routine which can balance the whole of my face :)

try the liz earl range the cleanser and moisturises are very nice- i've never found the simple range to be err very simple apart from the eye makeup remover.

Mama Mio face care range is excellent. I have very similar skin to you: dry but prone to breakouts. I was one of their testing panel and it made a huge difference to my skin. I wouldn't use anything else now.

TBH, I found wipes are the worst thing to use on my skin.

This winter, I suffered from a dry and flaky T-zone while also getting a bit of acne on my chin, nose, and forehead. Agree that wipes are no good. They usually contain many drying ingredients and definitely made my skin worse. I don't exfoliate - I've tried many, many different products and they generally just cause my skin to flake more.

I have searched high and low and found nothing that beats Eucerin 5% urea cream. Urea sounds gross but it's the magic ingredient - it both hydrates and exfoliates, clearing dry, flaky patches. I've found nothing that works quite like it. It's non-comedogenic and it's one of the few very rich hydrating creams I can use without getting more acne. I use Eucerin at night. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche is also excellent (perfume and preservative free), quickly absorbed and hydrating cream for daytime use, but using it I don't completely get rid of the dry patches. So it might work for maintenance but not for when you have very flaky skin to start with.

Almost all moisturizes I have tried "glue" dry patches back to my face. When the moisturizer is absorbed or rubbed off, the flakes return, often within moments or hours. Makeup generally accentuates the flakiness. Eucerin is the only product I've found that really get rids of the flakes. While using it, I've been able to switch from full-coverage Diorskin Forever to sheer Diorskin Nude. I'm contemplating going without foundation altogether - the only remaining issue is that my skin is a bit prone to redness and I need to use something to even out my skin tone.

For some reason, removing make-up with this baby oil followed by wash with soap (simple, cheap Dove) works much better for my skin thancreamy makeup removers (even the gentlest of them cause tightness and increase flaking). Oil cleansing alone gives me very serious acne, but oil cleansing combined with soap is just right.

Liz earle hot cloth cleanser followed by 2 drops of bio oil as a moisturiser.

I'm combination too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/04/2011 08:27

Bio oil in the evening only. Sorry forgot to specify.

Thanks for your tip ladies, I may give some of them a go - and ditch the wipes! :)

I also highly recommend Liz Earles skincare. I have awful skin, with very dry patches on cheeks and really oily on t zone, and since using Liz's products my skin has really improved. I now don't have to wear makeup if I don't feel like it as my skin has improved so much.
